A poor loss for Aryan at the Roehampton R1

[R1] Aryan Shah (IND,61) l. (WC) Viktor Frydrych (GBR,160), 36 36

No Indian can play on grass any more. AITA has nicely made sure that our grass tradition would get summarily destroyed, by doing nothing.

This week at J100 in Tehran, 2 Indian boys have reached the SF. 6th seed 17 year old Debasis Sahoo beat a Kazakh player in the QF who had upset the top seed earlier, wild card 16 year old Aarjun Pandit upset the 4th seed from Turkey in R2 and 5th seed from Kazakhstan in the QF.

Debasis meets 7th seed Kazakh who beat our 3rd seed Hitesh Chauhan in QF. Aarjun will meet an Iranian who beat our 2nd seed Krish Tyagi in first round.

Both Debasis and Aarjun lost in the SF at Iran J100 today. Still a decent run by them particularly Aarjun Pandit who if I recall had some decent results earlier too.

Aditya Govila was 4th seed and reached the SF of the J100 in Santa Domino (Dominican Republic) last week. He lost to the top seed in a 3-setter... Made some points and moved up 29 spots to #249 as our highest ranked player from 2006.

A 16 year old from a good 2007 batch, Gandharv Gourav Kothapalli, has done very well in two J30s in Nairobi, Kenya. Won 5 rounds and finished runner-up to the same Chinese guy both weeks. Last week, we had a runner-up on the girls' side too - Nainika Narender Reddy Bendram.

Adi made the SF for a second week in a row, as Rohan had to withdraw at 57 20 due to cramps after being up multiple breaks in the first set at first. Adi plays the 11th seed Hamza Noor (USA,489) next.

In the J60 at Nairobi this week, Gandharv has again made the final, this time upsetting a second seeded German boy in the SF today, 61 62. He faces the same Chinese boy 3rd seed Fumin Jiang for a third week's final in a row. On the girls' side, Nainika lost in 3 sets in the QF to a 3rd seeded Algerian, who also upset the 2nd seeded Indian, Raja Sarvangnya Kilaru, in 3 sets to reach the final.

Aditya Govila (IND,249) made the final at the Santa Domingo J100 yesterday with a 60 60 shellacking of the 11th seed Hamza Noor (USA,489)... Just heard that he has won the final against the 5th seed Maximus Dussault (USA,238) too  ... Awaiting the score. Rohan Belday and Maximus are in the doubles final too.

Aditya will move up to somewhere just around #180 next week. That is nearly a 100 spot move from #278 after the SF and Title in the latest two weeks in the Santa Domingo J100 for Adi. Nice!!

^^^ Oh yeah. Thanks! ... So another shellacking! What got into Adi in the final two matches here. Once he got past Rohan, he was in total flow, it seems.

Aditya Govila will go upto close to 180 I think now and India #4 behind Yuvan, Aryan and Manas. He has 1 more year of junior eligibility next year. Hopefully, he will get to play junior slams next year.

And it was a 26 16 loss to Fumin, for a third runner-up finish in a row for Gandharv in two J30s and a J60. He won the doubles title, partnering Fumin Jiang, too. This was Gandharv's first J60 event. He started playing ITF only this year and his first ITF singles points were from these three Kenyan events. He has come up from around 2000 in junior ranks to 1207 this week, and will now move up to around 750 in the rankings. Great job!

Yeah, with his big 140 points for the Kolkata J200 runner-up finish falling off only in late January, he should be near or inside top-100 early next year and should make at least the AO junior qualies. But he may be hitting a stride now, and will hopefully finish the year in the top-100 to start next year in the top-75.

#55 Yuvan Nandal and #230 Kriish Tyagi are at the J200 in Durban, S.Africa. Yuvan is the top seed, and won in the first round, 61 61 over Guy Vorwerk (RSA,689). Kriish went down after a fight against the 6th seed Dmitrii Burtsev (RUS,194), 26 64 67(3)

Yuvan beat Makar Elesin (RUS,482) 60 64 and then the 5th seed Donghyun Hwang (KOR,169), 61 06 62 to reach the SF at the Durban J200. He plays Carel Aubriel Ngounoue (USA,320) who upset the 4th seed there to make the SF.

The 100 points replace the 100 dropping off next Monday from the Uzbekistan J100 title last year, to keep his ranking right around the current #55. One more win for 40 more points can move him back inside the top-50 which will be almost enough to avoid qualifying into the USO juniors coming up in 4-5 weeks from now. Two wins and a title will definitely seal a direct entry for him at the USO.

Yuvan beat the giant-killer American kid Carel Aubriel Ngounoue (USA,320), 64 62 to make the final. Plays the 2nd seed Tianhui Zhang (CHN,91) in the final.
