I am glad that the junior players will be playing tournaments on the clay courts in Europe. Ramesh Krishnan has said that he benefited immensely by playing in junior tournaments on the clay courts in Europe. This will be a true test for Sania, Sanaa, Isha, Tara, Somdev, Karan, etc since they will be going against the top European junior players. According to Jay's previous note it seems that our junior players will play in one clay court tournament before playing in the French Open. Is that enough preparation for the French Open?

I'm also glad that they're really get out there to play all these tournaments. The competition in Europe is far more intense that what most of them are used to seeing, so it will be a great opportunity to learn and advance their games.
Let's wish them well!

Hi,
do you have information about the Frankfurt tournament? University is having a one-week holiday for me in that week, maybe I would take one or two days there and watch our young guns...
Yours,
Florian

Good thread worthy of a bump up...
Entry lists for the Astrid Bowl (Grade 1) in Belgium (May 27)
(located at http://www.astrid-bowl.com/)
Karan RASTOGI, Somdev DEV VARMAN, Navdeep SINGH
Sanaa BHAMBRI, Tara IYER, Sania MIRZA
BTW, Somdev and Sanaa are still listed in the entry lists for Villach Cup, but as Jay pointed out, they've likely withdrawn.
Not sure why AITA decided to keep the kids out of this week's Italian Junior Open, a Grade A clay court tournament in Milan. I would think the more high quality clay court experience they get prior to the French Open the better... but perhaps it's too financially draining?

Even though the AITA withdrew most of the Indian contingent from the Villach Cup (Grade 2), one junior seems to have made the trip on his own:
[R1] (LL) Navdeep Singh (IND, 260) l. (LL) Philipp Oswald (AUT, 276) 46 26

A bit strange that Tara Iyer isn't mentioned at all, though her name appears in the entry lists of a few of the upcoming European junior tournaments...
Also, the article mentions that most of them will play a grade IV tourney in Halle as opposed to the Morocco tournament that Jay had listed above...

AITA is sending the team of Somdev, Karan, Sania & Sanaa to 6 tournaments in Europe. The AITA GRAND SLAM TEAM will participate in Belgium, French Open, Frankfurt Gr 1, Halle Gr 4 (If time permits), Roehampton & Wimbledon.
It was decided that Tara will not travel to he tournaments as she was not accepted into the Qualies of French. She might be participatin in tournaments elsewhere. She might still participate in Wimbledon.
Sania will be participating in Women's Tournys in Italy instead of the 2 Tourny in Germany.
Chandra will be Travelling coach for the period of 6 weeks. Hope this circuit will teach these kids a lot & they benefit immensely.
Any of the Forum members based or traveling in any of these places, could meet up with the players & wish them. They would all certainly feel very happy.
I join you all wishing our Indian Kids the very best.

Junior Circuits Abroad for Indian Kids...
It is heartening to note that AITA is sponsoring the tennis trip for the Indian junior players. I hope that they will take advantage of this opportunity and become better players. I feel that AITA is doing a pretty good job of developing talented players.
Is the previous note written by Sunil Yajaman? I am glad that he is sharing information with the forum members and making us feel part of the family. I am sure that some of the forum members based in Europe or traveling to Europe will be happy to meet with the players.
Sunil, is there a chance that AITA will send the junior players to tournaments in USA/Canada this year?
Best of luck to the Indian junior players.

Yes Bhushan, it's Yajaman. There will definitely be a team travelling to USA during US Open.

Bravo AITA. I only hope that the team doesn't go to Morocco after the French Open to play a fruitless clay tournament.
Instead they should quickly get onto the grass (Halle, Nottingham -- perhaps all play the qualifier in a Challenger) and get set to take advantage of Indian's natural abilities on that surface.

The AITA coaches and officials should know what is best for our junior players but I certainly agree with PKBasu that participating in grass court tournaments soon after the French Open is the right way to prepare for the Wimbledon.
Thanks Sunil for sharing with the forum members about the Indian players participating in the US Open junior tournament. I am sure Neil, gvhvhg, and other forum members based in or near New York will be happy to cheer our junior players in New York.
Great job AITA!
