Jeev Milkha Singh (Asia #1) in US Open 2009
Come Thursday and two Singhs will bee teeing off together in the US Open - the second major of the year. Jeev Milkha Singh is paired with Vijay Singh. This should be interesting and hopefully both of them will do well. Jeev returns to Bethpage, where he participated in a major for the first time seven years back, and made the cut to finish T62 with four straight 75s. Jeev showed evidence of welcome return to form in his last two torunaments. He should be entering this tournament with more confidence. Go Jeev!

Ajay,
It seems Jeev is injured and was even considering pulling based on report from his doctor.
Jeev injured his wrist during 4th round at the European Open and had MRI scan last weekend.
As per news, he was awaiting advise from doctor before deciding.
Hope he plays and is injury free at a crucial time when 3 Majors & 1 WGC event come thick and fast....

While in tennis we'll have Wimbledon - the 3rd Grand Slam event of the year next week, in Golf we have US Open, the 2nd Major of the year.
Jeev, Vijay Singh and KJ Choi tee off early morning today. Jeev is playing with the rib injury (fortunately no fracture). Jeev will be playing his 4th US Open. So far his record in US Open has been as follows:
Every time Jeev has improved his position. Jeev has two back to back top 10 in European tours and looks to be in good form. Beside Jeev, only once another Indian player has played US Open. This was in 2006 when Jyoti Randhawa acoompanied Jeev, but Jyoti missed the cut.
The tee times for first and second rounds are:
K.J. Choi 7:44 am 1:14 pm - - - - - -
Jeev Milkha Singh 7:44 am 1:14 pm - - - - - -
Vijay Singh 7:44 am 1:14 pm

A soggy start to US Open. They are playing in rain and Greens are full of water. Difficult conditions and Jeev started with a bogey. After 4 holes he is +2. It will be tough for anyone to finish under par. Vijay is on par.
Update: Jeev is +4 in 6 holes. That's too bad of a start.

And he lost one more shot on the 7th...Let's hope when the rain ceases, Jeev can turn things around

Looks like the injury is affecting Jeev. He says each time the ball gets into the rough he has no other option but to chip it out. He had earlier stated that he might have sustained the rib injury while playing out of the rough during the European Open at the London Golf Club.
Let's hope he doesn't do himself any further harm out here.

Good start but unfortunately he is back in trouble. Lost 3 strokes on 12th to move from credible +3 to +6. Anotyher bogey on 14th and he is really struggling. His today's two back to back birdies on 9th and 10 looks a distant memory. It won't be easy to make the cut. He'd need to play much better in his next 22 holes, (4 in this round and 18 in next round).

Jeev played the 3 of the remaining 4 holes at par but gave away another stroke on 18th to finish the first round at +8. I think +3 to +4 is a good first round. +5 is also OK. But over that is not good. Jeev will have to play a heck of round tomorrow - Even par or at the most +1 to make the cut.

To make matters worse for Jeev, the course is playing much easier and the scoring is much better.ajay wrote:Jeev played the 3 of the remaining 4 holes at par but gave away another stroke on 18th to finish the first round at +8. So Jeev needs to play one of the best rounds and under PAR round to make the cut, which seems unlikely at this stage, with his injury concern...
Jeev is scheduled to play next 5-6 weeks continuosly.
Not sure whether he can manage to do that now.
