Actually, Mr Vicky Chandhok is a great driver and his passion for motorsports is second to none.
He is the head of FMSCI which runs the racing in the country.
MRF is associated with MAI and the rallies. Vicky is no way connected with MRF.
THough MAI is the offiliated ASN of FIA, FMSCI is the govt recognised body in India to run motorsport.
JK Tyre supports Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan.

Vicky Chandhok's father MR Indu Chandhok is one of the three founders who started the motorsports movement in India (in Madras) when they started the MMSCI, which celebrates its silver jubilee in Irungattukottai, Madras on Dec 19 with the final of the JK National championships.

As he used race rally IIRC I figured if he searched only for Vicky he'd find a lot of Karun related articles, but Vicky and MRF would give him rallying realted articles. Didn't mean to suggest that Vicky was tied up with MRF. :)

Jaydeep, actually Dhruv may be right. I don't know if MRF were involved in racing those days.

For ex: Arjun Balu, one of the best racing drivers in the circuit actually drove for both MRF and JK

C'mon Jay! I am sure Dhruv will understand.....
Anyway Major Coup going on...

I am so excited I don't know where to post this...

Indian National champions Naren Kumar and Ramkumar are now driving for JK Tyre. They were signed just hours before the rally and will now be the only INdian team in the APRC in Pune.

Till now they were always with the Reds.

Hey David,

Are you serious???? As far as I know Naren's contract with MRF doesn't allow him to sign up with MRF's competitors for 3 years from the date he leaves MRF or ends up paying a huge sum. Anyways let me check this out from the man in question.

Jaydeep, Can you post the results of Day one of MRF India rallyin a seprate forum. None of the newspaper have covered it in thier website.

Ture, very true!!!

Naren and Ram made their debut on Saturday backed by JK Tyre in the last and final
leg of the Asia Rally Championship at Pune as privateers which began with a Super Special
Stage after the ceremonial start.

The fierce battles between arch-rivals MRF and JK Tyre in the Indian rally
scene are well known but they came to an end in the year 1999. Since then
MRF teams were the only teams to take part in the Indian National Rally
Championship apart from the privateers. JK Tyre, for whom Hari Singh and
Gurinder Singh Mann won the national championship for three years till then,
were out due to certain differences between the groups at the National
federation level.
From 99 Naren is the national champion. Only this year since he opted to pull out and take part in APRC, Vikram Mathias and Sujith will bag their maiden championship even if they finish second. They are leading today after the second day. Sunday is the final stage.

The strong rivalry, at least in the APRC leg, augurs well for motorsports in
India and hopefully will spread to the national scene to brighten the
competitive spirit which is utterly lacking in the recent years.

Thus Team JK Tyre is all set to take on the challenge on the tough terrain
in the outskirts of Pune. ``I am proud to announce that every Indian
participating in the international scenario of motorsport today is backed by
JK Tyre; be it karting, racing and now even rallying. Naren has always
ranked up there with the list of Indian probables in the world of rallying.
It is a matter of concern when you come to a rally with an international
line up to find the only Indians in this rally without a sponsor,'' said
Sanjay Sharma, head of motorsports, JK Tyre.

``Thus we have formulated a winning strategy: Team JK Tyre that is all set
to storm out the competition. With Karamjit and Allen already winning the
APRC title with the Pune round to spare, signing on the duo is in line with
out continuing endeavour at JK Tyre to promote Indian motorsport talent and
take the sport to newer heights of fame and glory,'' he added.

``I am extremely grateful to JK Tyre and Hardy for signing me for the rally.
It was quite a financial burden in importing a car and without any sponsors
it becomes even more difficult for one to concentrate on the task at hand -
driving. Racing alongside Karamjit Singh who is a former World Rally
champion and current APRC holder is a dream come true. We will certainly
gain some valuable experience and raise our own standards,'' felt Naren
Kumar.

Actually, when Hardy came to know that Naren was struggling. He called him up.

Naren never expected his call....of all the people. And then he poured out.

Rest is history.

You can see the Reds turn to yellow. You can see the JK Tyre stickers on the car and the Yellow car if you are in Pune.

Ask anyone in Pune you will know that though Naren entered as privateer, he is sporting yellow colours and having JK Tyre stickers on his car.

Yes I watched leg at Mulshi ... And I m vouching for David ... Naren entered as a privateer with JK Tyres support written all over the car ... But I was disappointed by course condition ... On saturday they cancelled one leg becoz of bad condition and yesterday they cancelled 3 legs becoz of very bad condition of course .. So afternoon sessionnever happened ... And Karamjeet Singh on Malayesia won the Championship.
