Unfortunate that even our esteemed forummer falls for this rogue one sided ban. I wish we put the same xxx for Israel, Pakistan and other rogues too.

At the ITF J200 in Kolkata (Hard)

[R2] Arjun Rathi (IND,200) d. (3) Kerem Yilmaz (TUR,111), 36 75 64
[QF] Arjun Rathi (IND,200) vs (7) Hyeon Seok Seo (KOR,98)

Very nice upset by Arjun there! HyeonSeok beat Sehaj Singh Pawat (IND,220) in a 46 63 75 comeback today. Will be a tough QF for Arjun. We are done on the girl's side, as both Aishwarya and Prisha went down in the R2s.

[R2] Aishwarya Jadhav (IND,285) l. Daria Koreshkova (RUS,178), 16 46
[R2] (Q) Prisha Nikhil Shinde (IND,801) l. (2) Polina Kuharenko (RUS,92), 16 36

Looks like a breakthrough year for Arjun Rathi who seems to be in his final year of junior eligibility.

Per this article, he seems to have missed a significant chunk of last year due to an injury.

Yeah, Arjun has been impressive lately. He will now move up to around #145 with the points from this semifinal. A title can take him to around #95 in junior rankings.

Arjun had no ITF junior ranking till September. So, it is quite impressive that he is rising close to 150 or so based on just 5 months play. He can get higher if he can win couple more matches this week.

Arjun is now in the final at Kolkata with third straight upset of a seed.

At the ITF J200 in Kolkata (Hard)

[SF] Arjun Rathi (IND,200) d. (6) Damir Zhalgasbay (KAZ,104) 36 64 64

Next,

[F] Arjun Rathi (IND,200) vs. Jan Chlodnicki (POL,243)

Chlodnicki has come in to India only for this week and has run thru the draw with upset of 2 seeds ( including Arnav Paparkar). So, it will be a battle between 2 players on hot run this week in the final.

Looks he was completely away from tennis for 6 months from last February due to a road accident (reminds me of cricketer Pant's situation). The fact that he is playing at this level is pretty remarkable. Good luck to him to win the final and crack the top 100!

Quote below from the article linked earlier.
Arjun: I had an injury in February. And I was away for like around six months. And then I rehabbed for two months and I’m back on circuit from the last 2 months. I played few tournaments in Nairobi. Had a title there. And now I’m playing in India. Still having a great run. So that’s not bothering me because I am back to my form.

Ataboy Arjun! Into the top-150 in the juniors now. Get a win tomorrow and he will be top-100.

Actually I miscalculated mentally. He is at 312.25 points now and gets 150 + 11.25 (doubles pts) - 10 (sixth in his point list now) for 463.50 points that will move him to around #110 as the India #4, behind three fellow 17-year-olds Kriish, Rethin, Hitesh and just ahead of 16 year old Arnav Paparkar at around #115.

Arjun is safe now for junior grand slam qualies for the three remaining grand slams. We could have 2 in the main draw and three in the qualies at the junior grand slams. If Manas picks up 20 ATP points somehow in the next 3 months, he will be there too, for 6 guys. That would be some sort of a record for us!

It is 140 points for J200 final ( not 150). So, I think he will be at 453.50 points which will be at around #115 rank. Not much of a difference. Hope he wins tomorrow and gets into top 100.

And Arjun wins the final in straight sets to win the title.

At the ITF J200 in Kolkata (Hard)

[F] Arjun Rathi (IND,200) d. Jan Chlodnicki (POL,243) 64 62

So, with that Arjun will be now at 513.5 points and gets into top 100 at around #94 /95. He can surely play the remaining junior grand slam qualies. If he gets another big title like this or a couple of finals/SF in big events in next couple of months can even get into main draw of junior slams.

:bounce: :bounce:

Sameer: don't the rankings fluctuate a lot in juniors as it's a best of 6 tourneys ranking. So even if he has no points to defend, his ranking might fall down to around 130 by the French Open Qualies cut off time.

Congrats to Arjun for a great title and quality wins! Per his older interview, he was going to be shutting down for his final exams and then come back and try to make the Wimbledon and US Open GS junior events.

Then cultural pressures of being an Indian such as studying several months for exams definitely isn’t conducive to a fast professional sports start. Then again I wonder if he has interest in playing US collegiate tennis where the ability to carry some academic workload is important.
