No, Rohan never retired from pro tennis, he has only retired from davis cup.

Btw, In AO Asia pacific wild card playoff, Rutuja Bhosale lost in first round of both womens singles and womens doubles unfortunately.

In mens doubles QF in an all Indian match-up, Saketh-Mukund beat second seeds Niki-Anirudh in 2 tie break sets and top seeds Jeevan-VSP also won their QF.

So, tomorrow we have 3 matches- Mukund in mens singles QF against Tianhui Zhang (CHN,841), than both mens doubles semi finals- Jeevan/VSP play an unseeded Chinese team who upset third seeds in QF and than Saketh-Mukund play Japanese pair of Watanabe-Yuzuki who upset 4th seeds in the QF.

Mukund lost 64 67(5) 46 against Tianhui Zhang (CHN, 841). He served for the match at 5-4 in second set but got broken, than was up 4-2 in tie break but lost it, than was 40-15 on opponent serve when ge served for the match at 5-4 but could not break. When one misses so many chances one is bound to lose.

While true, it matters a lot to those seven players playing doubles on how their results are. Six maybe. We leave aside Rohan.

From what I hear Arjun's knee injury is bad and is going to take 3 months or so heal. In that case, he will miss Australian open which is unfortunate considering that would be / would have been his first grand slam.

Jeevan/VSP have to win their final in wild card play off tomorrow to get the wild card. Otherwise, it is tough for them to make by way of their ranking.

So, as of now only 4 ( Rohan, Yuki, Balaji, Rithvik) confirmed apart from Sumit in singles.

At the 1973 Wimbledon Championships we had 7 Indians

Singles
1. Guarav Misra
2. Chiradeep Mukerjee(LL)
3. Jasjit Singh
4. Premjit Lall (Q)
5. Vijay Amritraj
6. Anand Amirtraj
7. Jaideep Mukherjee

Chiradeep & Anand made it to R2 , Jaideep reached the last 16 and Vijay reached the last 8 losing to the eventual champion Jan Kodes in 5 gruelling sets and sadly lost the 5th set at 5-7

All of the above 7 singles players also featured in the MD of the Doubles with Premjit & Jaideep going on to reach the quarters only to lose to the eventual champions Connors & Nastase in 4 sets

Interestingly both in the Singles & Doubles QF's our guys lost to the eventual Champions , .. quite a feat.

In 1973 Wimbledon was boycotted by most players. Even Jaidip lost to Jan Kodes. Vijay was 2 sets to 1 up and then up in the 4th set but choked after that. Jan Kodes wasn't the most competent on grass. Premjit lost to Borg where in one of the sets there was a very long tie-breaker.

1973 was one time Vijay had a decent chance of winning Wimbledon. So close yet so far.

I think a lot of the top players boycotted that Wimbledon, so winning would have an asterisk although Kodes was a top 15 player. Later that year, Vijay made the QF of the US Open in a full field, so that was a more impressive performance by him.

Jeevan-VSP lost in the final of WC playoff against an unheralded Japanese pair 62 26 2-10. Just got blown away after that first set.

So, looks like they have missed the opportunity to go to AO.

So, only 4 Indian doubles players are likely to be there at AO ( 5 if Arjun gets fit by that time).

There is no such asterisk in reality, it is just a made up construct by the press. If you win Wimbledon, you get the same trophy and the same prize money and are counted among the winners. You are not asked to stand in a separate corner just because some people boycotted it.
