Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
^^^
She can apply for wild card and for all you know she may get it given wild cards are usually awarded to young players . But, it is likely to be too early for her given that she will play top 100 level players even in qualies.
I would say let us not put too much pressure on her too soon. From what I hear, she is going to Spain to Rafa Nadal academy after this week for training cum tournaments, will also go to school there. She is likely to play 1 or 2 W15 tournaments out of the 3 tournaments which are there are the acadamy starting next week.

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
Can she be convinced to play the tourneys in Ahmedabad and Gurugram?
They can catapult her into the top 400 in rankings

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
I know it is sensible for her to play tournaments near her base alongside training. But I still wish she tries for Dubai. It is very difficult to get Tour level WC apart from India and Dubai. She will get 20 points just for reaching Q2 in Dubai, while for winning an entire W15 tournament she will get only 15 points

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
I think it is still there. If you see the stories of Pam Shriver (in singles) and Tracy Austin and their burnouts, etc., you will see why the rule was made. There is a reason they made waves early and then were nowhere to be seen. It is a good rule, imho - although in general I hate rules.SaniaFan wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 8:38 am I think there used to be a rule that till the age of 16 you can play only 6 senior tournaments. Not sure it it is still there.

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
It will be not be easy to get a win over a top 100 player for Maaya at this stage.Shyam2000 wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 9:00 am I know it is sensible for her to play tournaments near her base alongside training. Secondly, yes there is a restriction on number of tournaments a player can play at this age and also restrictions on number of wild cards she can get. Between 15 to 16 years of age, a player can play a maximum of 10 pro tournaments. Maaya completes 16 years on 12th June this year which is 4 months from now. Maaya has played only 3 tournaments thus far in this period, so she can play 7 more till June. So, that is not much of a concern as she is going to play French open juniors and maybe a couple more junior tournaments too during that period. So, about 10 tournaments in 4 months is ok at this age.
But, second condition is a player can get only 3 wild cards before 16th birthday, as I see Maaya has already got 3 ( Ahemedabad, Pune and Mumbai). So, no more wild cards possible for her till June it seems.

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
I believe Maya has played 5. Also the idea of letting them play only 10 is so that they can space them out better. Playing a bunch together kind of defeats that.

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
After the QF win, Maaya is now the third highest ranked 15 year old, behind Julieta Pareja (USA) and Hannah Klugman (GBR) who are both 3 months older than her at 15 and 9 months. Now there is no younger player ranked above Maaya.sameerph wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 5:49 pm And now Maaya is 4th highest ranked 15 year old and there is only 1 player who is younger and ranked slightly ahead of her in live rankings- German Mariella Thamm who is 15 year 4 months old ( against Maaya who is 15 year 6 months old) who is ranked #773 in live rankings. If Maaya wins tomorrow, there will be no younger player ahead of her in rankings.

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
Both Pareja and Klugman are going to turn 16 soon. The website mentions their age as 15.9 , 0.9 doesn't mean 9 months. It refers to 9/10 ths of an year. So their age is around 15 years and 11 months.

I hope India hosts WTA 250 and an additional challenger tournament from next year. It would be beneficial for Maaya

^^^ Actually Maaya is from Coimbatore, not Chennai. The same place that produced Nirupama Sanjeev (Vaidyanathan).
