ITF M25/M15 New Delhi, Chandigarh - Mar 2024

Post by jayakris »

The first week is the M25 at Delhi (Hard) that is this week.

ENTRY LIST - MIN DRAW (20 spots)
Evgeny Donskoy (RUS),Khumoyun Sultanov (UZB), Ramkumar Ramanathan,Nam Hoang Ly (VIE), Florent Bax (FRA), S D Prajwal Dev, Siddharth, Sidharth Rawat, Karan Singh, Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul, Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong (MAS), Bang Shuo Yin (TPE), Yunseok Jang (KOR), Manish Sureshkumar, Thanapet Chanta (THA), Kazuma Kawachi (JPN), Siddhant Banthia, Nitin Kumar Sinha, SE spot, SE spot

ENTRY LIST - QUALIFYING (8 spots, 16 seeds, 48 men draw)
Woobin Shin (KOR), Yuichiro Inui (JPN), Adil Kalyanpur, Raghav Jaisinghani, Manas Dhamne, Vishnu Vardhan, Dev Javia, Chirag Duhan, Aditya Vishal Balsekar, Ranjeet Virali-Murugesan, Kabir Hans, Parth Aggarwal, Bharath Nishok Kumaran, Chen-Yu Lu (TPE)...

The qualifying draw just came up. Manas is not there. Adil is there (but unseeded as his ranking has dropped). Raghav, Chirag, Vishnu, Dev, VM Ranjeet, Kabir, and Lu (TPE) are the top 8 seeds. So it looks like Shin, Inui and Manas have made the main draw with Special exempt spots and WC spots. Not sure who else might have got the main draw wildcards. Let me hope that Yuvan got a wildcard. Would be great if so. Aryan was in the qualifying list last week but was a late withdrawal.

Yuvan lost a tough Q2 match against the 4th seed Dev Javia in the qualies, 76(5) 16 (7-10)... Otherwise no big surprises - draw/results

In the main draw, Mukund has joined as the 4th seed with a wildcard (why did he have to waste a WC? that is irresponsible)... Unfortunately, Karan Singh is drawn to face him, so not a great break for Karan... But then, Mukund has not been in great form, so who knows? ... Manas Dhamne got a wildcard too, and he gets a tough first round against the 6th seed Florent Bax (FRA,555)... RamK is the 3rd seed.

Manas loses in 3 sets. Wins more points but loses the match. Decent performance against a 500+ ranked opponent.

4 Indians are in QF in Delhi M25.

[QF] Karan Singh (IND.730) vs. Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul (THA,794)

[QF] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,409) vs. (7) Siddharth Vishwakarma (IND,662)

[QF] Manish Sureshkumar (IND,877) vs. (5) Nam Hoang Ly (VIE,488)

So, 1 Indian semi finalist assured, If Manish can beat Ly we will have a finalist assured.

Good to see Manish and Karan find some form this week! Good luck to all the Indians in the QF! Hopefully, we'll have an Indian winner but #267 Donskoy is playing this event and will likely be the obstacle that they will need to overcome.

^^^ I would say he is still second favourite behind top seed Donsky who is a former top 70 player.

Today, he overcame Sid V in straight sets and Karan Singh had another good win against a Thai but Manish lost against Vietnamese 5th seed.

[QF] Karan Singh (IND.730) d. Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul (THA,794) 61 64

[QF] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,409) d (7) Siddharth Vishwakarma (IND,662) 64 62

[QF] Manish Sureshkumar (IND,877) l. (5) Nam Hoang Ly (VIE,488) 46 46

RamK seems to be having unbeaten streak in these M25's in India so far starting from Oct 2023- 3 titles in Dharwad, Mumbai and Kalaburagi and now SF here.

[SF] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,409) vs. (5) Nam Hoang Ly (VIE,488)

[SF] Karan Singh (IND,730) vs. (1) Evgeny Donskoy (RUS,267)

Can Karan Singh pull off a big upset here ?

That is because these M25 points are updated 1 week late, not due to 2 week Miami it will actually get updated 2 weeks late.

16 points for RamK so far which will take to around 375-380, a title will take him around 360.

But, biggest win of his career for 20 year old Karan Singh to make his first ITF final.

[SF] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,409) d. (5) Nam Hoang Ly (VIE,488) 62 64

[SF] Karan Singh (IND,730) d. (1) Evgeny Donskoy (RUS,267) 63 64

^^^ I hate the delayed ranking updates that ATP does! Anyway, Karan has 4 points falling off on April 1st, so he will take his point total from 35 to 47 s of now, and should move to just inside 670 and among the India top-6... A title will take him to around 610 and place him among the top 4, just ahead of DPS and behind Sumit, RamK and Mukund. It could change depending on next week's Chandigarh M15, which also counts for the Apr 1 rankings.

A terrific show by the 20 year old. Good to see that we have one more top-500 quality young player now. Actually he may be the only one. I don't know what happened to 23 year old DPS who looked like he was going to top-500 just last year. They are the only two under 26 in the top-750... But Karan has steadily raised his ranking over the last 2 years. Nice!

RamK would love to get inside top-375 and be in line for getting high seeds in challenger qualies too.
