Congrats Shrivalli! Fantastic win!
So now we have Rutuja, Sahaja and Shrivalli in the round of 16 of a WTA125 tournet. Now I hope Ankita joins them.

Fantastic and somewhat unexpected wins against the top 2 seeds at a high level challenger by Indians. Great to see 3 of them in the R-16! :goodluck:

So, our #1 ranked player lost and the other 3 won their matches. But, admittedly our #1 player got the most in-form player who had qualified into Australian open main draw.

So, these are the second round match-ups for our 3 players-

[R2] (WC) Sahaja Yamlapalli (IND,335) vs. Polina Kudermetova (RUS,162)

[R2] (WC) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,348) vs (8) Katie Volynets (USA,125)

[R2] (Q) Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (IND,521) vs Alina Korneeva (RUS,134)

Rutuja has the toughest match. Sahaja and Shrivalli meet talented Russian players. Hope at least 1 of them get a win.

They should have given Shrivalli a rest, as she has played three matches in the last 3 days, as a qualifier. Instead they give a rest to the other two. Weird.

Her 2 qualifying matches were on Saturday and Sunday and first round on Tuesday. So, she got a rest on Monday.

Still, I agree that Sahaja and Rutuja have played only 1 match so far. So, they could have put one of them on schedule today. Sahaja and Vaishnavi got in as alternates in doubles and will be playing their first round match today. So, they should have put Rutuja today and Sahaja and Shrivalli on Thursday.

^^ Oh yeah, Shrivalli got one day of rest. Then it is okay, and it is better for her to play today and get a day off if she can pull of another shocker.

Yes, they have messed up Shaja's and Rutuja's schedule and packed too many matches together for them.

Shrivalli lost a very close one against 16 year Russian talent.

[R2] (Q) Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (IND,521) l. Alina Korneeva (RUS,134) 75 46 46

114 points against 116 points, 5 aces but 14 double faults against 8 aces and 6 double faults by Alina. So, when ball was in play Shrivalli got more points than her opponent.

Sahaja led 5-2 in the 3rd set and lost 5 straight games to lose in the second round. Huge chance missed. Shows that she lacks experience at this level but a good tournament for her.

Rutuja also lost in 3 sets 6-7(10) 6-2 1-6. If only she had taken the first set TB

This tournament surprisingly delivered some good results for Indian fans. Only Prarthana stays on, in the doubles draw.

Very solid performances by the Indians in this tournament to make the second round and then lose in close 3 setters to players ranked in the 100s. Hopefully, they willl carry forward the confidence from this week.

Yes, but kinda disappointing that all 3 Indian players lost the second round matches in 3 sets. If at least one could have gone thru to the QF.

Sahaja lost from 5-2 up in the third set, should have closed it out receiving at 5-2 when twice she was 2 points away, she also served 2 double faults at 5-3, 30-15, Opportunity missed. Polina is very good though, reached Q3 at AO, won Indore W50 title last week.

Overall, hope our players build on this good week and hope for Sahaja to get into grand slam qualies range by US open and Shrivalli may be by AO next year. That is a fair expectation considering how well they played this week.

Little unfortunate that none of them made an even deeper run like the last 4 or something - you need to do that to really jump up in the rankings.
