:puke: Do we even get to apply for a neutral venue? Although not very similar circumstances, I think Ukraine vs Colombia happened at Georgia last week.

If we don't travel, then we will be giving a straight walkover win to Pakistan (and they fully deserve to get it).

Watching these draws held on Wednesday morning London time for the last 40 years ever since we first made the World Group.

However in the past decade things don't look quite the same and few match up's always looked quite suspicious,
And this India Pak match away to Pak the only tie up which we never ever wanted , but on cue it happens , which doesn't seem to me like a dreadful coincidence.

What happens if we don't go to Pakistan. Nothing. Even if we had won against Pakistan. We would have lost the next tie. Ghosh I have become so pessimistic. Need offer in house optimist back.

Also, if Pakistan get a w/o, they are going nowhere from there. Their 80 year old players will get thrashed in the next round.

I think you’re just being realistic. There is no solid singles lineup waiting for us, say if Sumit gets injured. So, although dependent on the draw, ideally we would lose to any other team that may have 2 decent (even within top-400 range) singles players, if we choose to play Pakistan and defeat them.

Davis Cup is heading towards meaninglessness, but we absolutely should not give a walkover to Pakistan. That is a match we will win on any surface. The double bagel to Khan/Khan in MxD at the Asiad was one inkling of just how weak Pakistan are in tennis (other than the ageing Aisam).

It seems davis cup committee rejected our request to move the tie to neutral venue and our top 2 players Sumit and Mukund are not travelling to Pakistan,

Davis Cup captain Rohit Rajpal dismayed over Sumit Nagal, Mukund

So, looks like another controversy brewing around davis cup.

I hope we don't lose to 43 year olds Aisam and Aqeel.

Indian team for Davis Cup tie vs Pakistan:

1. Ramkumar Ramanathan
2. N. Sriram Balaji
3. Yuki Bhambri
4. Saketh Myneni
5. Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha
6. Digvijay Pratap Singh (Reserve)

Tie will be played in Islamabad on grass courts. So, looks like one of the doubles specialists will play second singles, I guess either Yuki or Niki.

But I dont know what is the need for so many doubles players when only 1 doubles match will be played. It would have been to have Digivijay in the team ahead of either Saketh or Balaji or Niki.

No complaints here about the team selection considering Sumit and Mukund made themselves unavailable. One should be happy that we are at least sending a full team when a few weeks ago we were not even sure this tie was going to happen. This team doesn’t need luck but here’s hoping the Indian contingents come back home safely.

Any idea why Prajnesh was not considered? He would still be a better singles player than these ageing Pakistanis. I have no trust on Yuki both with his fitness and after his performance in the Asian Games.

Prajnesh has been out of action since that injury in February. I keep hoping that he will enter any of the Indian ITFs but to no avail. At 34, it’s looking bleak that he will be able to revive his singles career
