Vaidehi started great with a 61 first set win but lost the next 2 sets. Vaishnavi also put up a decent fight in second set against a player ranked close to top 150.

Expected losses. Now hoping the expected wins happen and the long-shot upset also happens.

Shrivalli pulled off an upset win over higher ranked player but Ankita lost. Zeel beat higher ranked Rutuja in first round.
[R1] Sahaja Yamlapalli (IND,336) l. (1) Darja Semenistaja (LAT,142) 75 36 36
[R1] (LL) Zeel Desai (IND,544) d. Rutuja Bhosale (IND,357) 76(6) 62
[R1] (WC) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,532) d. (Q) Eri Shimizu (JPN,447) 63 62
[R1] (7) Ankita Raina (IND,223) l. Sapfo Sakellaridi (GRE,274) 63 36 26
So, only 2 Indians remain in second round.
[R2] (LL) Zeel Desai (IND,544) vs. (5) Alexandra Eala (PHI,187)
[R2] (WC) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,532) vs. (2) (2) Anastasia Tikhonova (RUS,151)

Only 2 in second round in a home event is a little below par. Vaidehi and Sahaja had chances to win against significantly higher ranked players but couldn't convert while Ankita's loss was a surprise.

Shrivalli got a good draw. And, she was the most likely to cause and upset. She did. Ankita on the other hand gave up that upset win and lost.

Both lost in one sided matches.

[R2] (WC) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,532) l. (2) Anastasia Tikhonova (RUS,151) 16 26
Rutuja and Ankita are in doubles semi final and that is our only challenge left this week.

Re: ITF W50 Bengaluru, Pune, Indore- Jan 14-Feb 4, 2024
This week in Indore, the draws are slightly weaker, maybe player taking a week's break before WTA Mumbai next week. But, our #1 Ankita Raina has also pulled out, probably she is suffering from something going by her results in last few weeks.
From qualifying 2 Indians who were seeded qualified - Vaidehi Chaudhari and Vaishnavi Adkar. With Rutuja and Sahaja making it directly and 4 wild cards, we again have 8 Indians in main draw.
And these are first round match-ups-
[R1] (Q) Vaishnavi Adkar (IND,858) vs. (1) Darja Semenistaja (LAT,120)
[R1] (Q) Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND,481) vs. Saki Imamura (JPN,473)
[R1] (WC) Zeel Desai (IND,522) vs. (4) Carole Monnet (FRA,174)
[R1] Rutuja Bhosale (IND,348) vs, Naho Sato (JPN,398)
[R1] Sahaja Yamlapalli (IND,335) vs. (7) Dejana Radanovic (SRB,253)
[R1] (WC) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,521) vs. Rina Saigo (JPN,381)
[R1] (WC) Diva Bhatia (IND,NR) vs. (Q) Ekaterina Yashina (RUS,617)
[R1] (WC) Pehal Kharadkar (IND,NR) vs. (Q) Michika Ozeki (JPN,827)
If one goes by rankings, Rutuja is the only one who is playing a lower ranked player. Hopefully, she and couple others can get upsets to make it to second round.

Vaidehi has the best opponent on paper apart from Rutuja, followed by Sahaja. Hope these three can at least pull out wins. Let's see if home advantage is worth anything.

Re: ITF W50 Bengaluru, Pune, Indore- Jan 14-Feb 4, 2024
Sahaja lost to that girl Radanovic 46 36 in Georgia last May. Radanovic had a very good run at that time, reached a number of semi finals and won a W40 title and reached a final. Here in last 2 weeks though Radanovic lost in first round as has Sahaja. So, it is a match between 2 players waiting to test success in this series.

Btw, Atithee, have a look at the draw this time. There are 8 Indians in main draw, so there was more than 25% probability that there would have been at least 1 all Indian match-up but there is none. So, it was indeed random.

Lady, lady lady... Whenever you write or say "girl," retroactively say "lady, lady, lady..." 10 times. Then say "That lady, that lady,..." So on

Assuming there were no seedings, it should be a 90.7% chance of at least one Indian match-up. Seedings will reduce the likelihood of no all Indian matchup since none of them are seeds.

All six who played today lost. Sahaja took the first set off the 7th seed, but other than that they were all straight sets losses (three tiebreaker sets, but all lost). So, basically a washout
