^^^ I stopped watching at that point and Ankita won
1-6 1-5 to 1-6 7-5 6-1
Next: Despite being the favorite (in terms of ranking), I hope Rutuja manages to beat Shimizu considering Asian players, especially Japanese perform well in these Indian ITFs. Ankita awaits the winner of this encounter.
Vaidehi plays her R1 later in the evening.

Yes, excellent comeback win by Ankita from nowhere. So typical of her.
Rutuja also came back from being bagled in the first set to win her match.
[R1] (8) Ankita Raina (IND,223) d. (Q) Viktoria Morvayova (SVK,486) 6 75 61
[R1] (WC) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,355) d. (Q) Eri Shimizu (JPN,428) 06 75 75

Vaidehi meets #189 Carol Monnet of France next, the #6 seed. Tough match, but then again, you are at home. If you want to move up, you need to upset people. Hope she pulls it through. Don't expect it, but let's go.

Close loss for Vaidehi.
[R2] (Q) Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND,503) l. (6) Carol Monnet (FRA,189) 76(5) 46 46
Close last few games. Monnet serving at 4-3, Vaidehi had 2 breakpoints to level at 4-4 but she could not, than Vaidehi saved a match point serving at 3-5, 30-40, than while serving for the match Monnet saved 4 breakpoints and won on her third match point.
Close but no cigar for Vaidehi. Anyway, 6 points will move Vaidehi up to around 485 in rankings.

Ankita retired after just 3 games against Rutuja.
So, now Rutuja left for us.

At least Rutuja got some serious rest today, so maybe she can mount a good attack on the 4th seed tomorrow.

Excellent upset win for Rutuja against Japanese 4th seed. It was a lot of drama with Rutuja was cruising thru at 64 53 ( 40-15), messed up on those 2 match points, missed another match point in next Moyuka service game and went on to lose that set.
Then, in third set Rutuja was down double break at 2-5 but somehow got back to 5-5, got broken again and it was almost 10 min or so service game for Moyuka at 6-5 where she too missed a couple of match points and Rutuja finally broke for 6-6 and than played a very good tie break.
[QF] (WC) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,355) d. (4) Moyuka Uchijima (JPN,171) 62 57 76(5)
Next,
[SF] (WC) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,355) vs. (6) Carol Monnet (FRA,189)

At W50 Bengaluru
[SF] (WC) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,355) l. (6) Carol Monnet (FRA,189) 26 06
So, looks like Rutuja had nothing left in the tank after 3 hour long battle yesterday.

Re: ITF W50 Bengaluru, Pune, Indore- Jan 14-Feb 4, 2024
For next week’s W50 at Pune, we have Ankita, Rutuja, Sahaja making the main draw directly. I believe 3 of the 4 the wildcards were awarded to Vaidehi, SRB, and Vaishnavi Adkar as I don’t see their names in the QD.
In the QD, other the 2 matches involving Indians - Zeel playing WC Sanjana Sirimalla, and Humera playing Akanksha Dileepan Nitture, not expecting any other Indian to beat their foreign opponents. Kristina Mladenovic is still shown in the entry list although she has reached the women’s doubles 3R at the AO. So there might be a chance for a lucky loser spot for those that win their QR1 today.

Yes, Zeel fought hard but lost against Viktoria Moryavova (SVK,485) 64 36 36. But, good that she made it in as lucky loser.
So, we have 8 Indians in the main draw of 32, 2 more than last week and these are match-ups for first round-
[R1] Sahaja Yamlapalli (IND,336) vs. (1) Darja Semenistaja (LAT,142)
[R1] Rutuja Bhosale (IND,357) vs. (LL) Zeel Desai (IND,544)
[R1] (WC) Madhurima Sawant (IND,NR) vs. (Q) Anouk Koevermans (NED,420)
[R1] (7) Ankita Raina (IND,223) vs. Sapfo Sakellaridi (GRE,274)
[R1] (WC) Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND,501) vs. (8) Tatiana Prozorova (RUS,240)
[R1] (WC) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,532) vs. (Q) Eri Shimizu (JPN,447)
[R1] (WC) Vaishnavi Adkar (IND,862) vs. (2) Anastasia Tikhonova (RUS,151)

We will have one woman in R2 but hoping Ankita at least wins her match. And, then for some bonus somewhere. Maybe Shrivalli?

Vaidehi also has the game to pull off an upset. Will be happy with 3 in the second round.
