ITF Junior Circuit 2024 India

Post by sameerph »

3 weeks of higher level junior events begins with week with a J100 in Chandigarh this week which will be followed by a couple of J200's in New Delhi and Chandigarh.

Average performance so far by Indians in J100 in Chandigarh. In boys singles, 3 Indians were seeded- second seed Rethin Pranav, fourth seed Debasis Sahoo and fifth seed Hitesh Chauhan. Out of these only Rethin has reached the QF. The only other Indian in the QF is wild card Shankar Heisnam who beat Aarjun Pandit who in turn had upset top seed Rohan Belday in first round.

In girls singles, only 2 Indians were seeded - second seed Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi and eighth seed Rishitha Reddy Basireddy. Maaya has taken her place in QF. Rishita got upset in second round by Aishi Bisht who has been doing well of late. Another Indian reached QF- 16 year old Samaira Pahwa who upset fifth seeded Taiwanese in the second round.

So, 2 boys and 3 girls in singles QF in Chandigarh J100.

No Indian girl in singles SF. Maaya's long inning streak in India ended when she lost to Russian Golovina 75 36 36 in the QF. Golovina reached final at W15 in Egypt in November. So, that was actually a good match played by Maaya despite losing to lower seeded Golovina. Aishi and Samaira lost in the QF too.

In boys singles, Rethin and Shankar Heisnam have both reached the SF.

Rethin plays the 14 year old French boy who is on a 8 match winning streak in India and Shankar plays a Korean.

Rethin lost in 3 sets against the French kid and Shankar too lost against the Korean. So, Indian challenge over. It is disappointing that no Indian made it to the final.

Hope we will have better results in next 2 weeks at J200's in New Delhi and Kolkata.

In New Delhi J200, in boys, 14 year Vihaan Reddy created an upset win over 17 year old top 150 player from Kazakhstan and finally Rethin Pranav upset last week's winner Frenchman Kouame. But, overall we have 4 Indians ( Rethin,Vihaan,Aarjun Pandit and Cahir Warik) and 1 Indian American ( Our Forum friend kid Rohan Belday) in last 16. Rohan and Aarjun play each other in second round.

In girls, Rishitha Reddy Basireddy upset second seed Indian American Maya Iyerngar in 3 sets. But,she is the only Indian girl in last 16. Unfortunately, Maaya ran into last week's winner Golovina in first round itself and again lost in 3 sets like last week.

Two Indian citizens -- WC-Vihaan Reddy and 5-Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar -- are in the QF in Delhi, alongside two NRIs -- our beloved 4-Rohan Belday and 15-year-old Q-Roshan Santosh. Rohan and Rethin play each other, so we are assured of one singles SF spot. Vihaan plays the top seed in the QF and Roshan plays an unseeded Swiss player.

Rohan, also the top seed in doubles, is in the doubles SF too.

In girls, Rishitha Reddy Basireddy lost to Russian Golovina who is on a 8 match winning streak here in 3 sets.

4th seed Rethin beats 7th seed Croatian 64 76(1) and 8th seed Cahir upsets 2nd seed Czeck 61 76(8) at Kolkata J200.

So, 2 Indian boys in SF finally in this series.

Rethin plays top seed Ukranian whom he lost to in 3 sets at same stage last week while Cahir plays third seeded Serbian.

On the girls side, Maya Iyengar lost against Golovina. So, no Indian or Indian origin girl left in girls draw.

Rethin will move up to around #85 with this SF. Excellent for a 16 year old with one more year in the juniors after this. Cahir is 18 and in his final year, but he beat an 18 yr old Czech guy Vojtech ranked #114... Cahir wil move inside top-140 now too.

Rethin lost 46 26 against top seed while Cahir retired after just 2 games. So, Indian contention over in the SF.

In these 3 weeks of high level tournaments, Rethin has been our best performer with semi finals in all 3 tournaments. With this he is likely to move around #85 and just sneak ahead of Aditya Govila as boys India #1.

Rethin Pranav is now India #1 junior ranked at 88. Hope he gets to play some junior slams this year itself.

This week lower level J60 is taking place in Indore.

Boys semi final has top 3 seeds - Hitesh Chauhan, Indian Americans Darshan Suresh Kumar and Roshan Santosh and Arnav Paparkar.

Girls semi final has seeds 1,3 and 4- Indian American Priyanka Rana, Amodini Naik and 14 year old Prisha Shinde and another 14 year Diya Ramesh who upset second seeded Russian in QF.

At the Indore J60,

Top seed Hitesh Chauhan beat 3rd seed Roshan Santhosh (USA), 36 64 64 and unseeded 15 year old Arnav Paparkar upset the 2nd seed Darrshan Suresh Kumar (MAS) 62 63 to reach an all-Indian final.

The girls' final will also be all-Indian, as top seed Priyanka Rana (USA) was upset by Amodini Naik, 46 63 75, and 6th seed Diya Ramesh beat 4th seed Prisha Nikhil Shinde, 63 60. The scoreline of Diya's win surprises me...
