Re: BWF tournaments Jan 2024
Both Satchi and HSP are playing pair/player against whom they have a big negative head to head record- HSP 2-5 and SatChi 2-8. So, it will be challenging but good thing is that HSP has won their last match in 2023 and SatChi have won their last 2 matches after being 0-8 down.

Re: BWF tournaments Jan 2024
SatChi won comfortably against the Malaysian #4 pair and a third win in a row against them. They are looking very good for Paris right now. Next up for them in the finals is #3 South Korean pair who they beat in the semifinals in Malaysia last week.
They have beaten #3, #4, #5, #9 and lost to #1 in the last 2 weeks, with another match against the #3 in the finals.
HSP got crushed by Shi Yuqi. Unless it was an injury, this was a shocking performance.

Second consecutive final loss for SatChi. Last week 17-21 third game loss against world #1 and this week 18-21 third game loss against world #3. It could be just plain bad luck in few points but they need to work on this in next few months.

Re: BWF tournaments Jan 2024
SatChi have withdrawn from Indonesia 500 as expected. No idea why our 2 WD pairs are not playing here, baffling given they both lost in the first round in Delhi. Both WD pairs are in the main draw for next week's Thailand 300 and slated to play each other in R2 which makes it even more silly.
MS has HSP, Srikanth, Lakshya and Priyanshu in the MD with Kiran George trying to qualify.

Kiran Gerorge qualified for main draw with 2 good wins and than had another good win in first round. Lakshya had his first win after 7-8 straight first round losses and Priyanshu had a decent win over similar ranked player.Sin Hombre wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 4:16 am

HSP and Srikanth lost. Srikanth seems to be on permanent downward spiral but HSP needs to up his form going closer to olympics.

Re: BWF tournaments Jan 2024
What a terrific run by Kiran George here though. After couple of decent wins in qualifying, 2 very good wins against players ranked 23 and 18. Kiran is 23 and if he can keep playing like this and get into top 20 along with Priyanshu and Lakshya at least will keep our interest alive at these level tournaments for next few year ( even as Srikanth and Prannoy wind down their careers).
As of now in womens singles, we have no interest left other than Sindhu.

Let us not be pessimistic on women's singles yet. Let us hope one of Unnati Hooda or Tasnim Mir manages to make it big.

Kiran George lost tamely against world champion Kunlavut in the QF. Looks like 4 long matches had drained him. Nonetheless, he probably had best week of his career so far.

Re: BWF tournaments Jan 2024
Antonsen who beat Lakshya in the second round beat Kunlavut easily to reach the finals. 2nd week in 3 where Antonsen has beaten Indian hopes in an early round and then stomped his way to the finals and likely a 2nd win.

Re: BWF tournaments Jan 2024
Tresa-Gayatri and Ashwini-Tanisha won their first round matches today in Thailand 300 and will play each other in second round.
Sameer Verma and Shankar Muthusamy qualified for main draw. Lots of Indians in men and women single including Srikanth but quite astonishing that Lakshya Sen chooses skip this tournament despite needing every win now to try to gain entry into olympics.

Tresa-Gayatri beat Ashwini-Tanisha in second round at Thailand 300. There is stiff competition between these 2 pairs to take the Olympics spot.
Mithun Manjunath beats Srikanth in mens singles. Sri continues his downward spiral.
In womens singles, Asmita Chalita had a good win over 30th ranked Yu Po Pai in womens singles.

Another good win by Ashmita Chaliha over 44th ranked Indonesian player to reach her first SF at this level.
Tresa-Gayatri lost in a close one 21-23 in third game against 18th ranked Indonesian pair .
Mithun Manjunath lost in a close one against Dutch player MarK Caljouw.
