I saw few shots, Zeel's sf i guess. The fact that this is on clay made a difference. Good to see two of them used it to their advantage

Terrific week indeed for Shrivalli, and particularly the wins over the fourth seed (R2) and second seed (SF). She also demonstrated the composure needed to win a title on the first attempt. Very good signs indeed.

Congrats to Shrivalli. Let’s not forget that she’s our current national champion, as well. I hope next year is her breakthrough year where she gets to play outside of Asia and face different competition and win! :goodluck:

Congratulations to Shrivalli for a terrific run at WTA Mumbai open 125 where she qualified in and got a main draw win. So, 3 wins against much higher ranked players ( one of them against a top 100 one) before losing a very close one against talented 16 year old who is ranked in top 140 in the world.

These are her results this week.

At WTA Mumbai Open 125

[Q1] Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (IND,521) d. (2) Valentini Grammatikopoulou (GRE,206), 62 63
[Q2] Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (IND,521) d. Viktoria Morvayova (SVK,482) 63 36 63
[R1] (Q) Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (IND,521) d. (2) Nao Hibino (JPN,94) 26 61 76(5)
[R2] (Q) Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (IND,521) l. Alina Korneeva (RUS,134) 75 46 46

With that run, Shrivalli will move to a carrer high ranking of around 475. But, hopefully this week will prove to be a turnaround in her career and she will move up fast soon.

Stretching two players ranked around 100 is an excellent effort. Proves nothing was a fluke till here. I am betting she can break into top 200 soon...

At the W75 in Charlottesville, VA, USA (clay) Last week,

[Q1] (5) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,428) l. Gabriella Price (USA,866), 26 26

Gabriella is very talented and was once considered a phenom, 5-6 years ago when she was 14, but she had injury issues and did not become tall enough for the top tour. But the lady can play; so it was not a big surprise that Shrivalli had trouble against her on a surface (US grey clay) that she was not familiar with. Gabriella went on to beat the 15th seed to qualify in and then upset #324 Victoria Hu also, before she retired injured again in the R2.

That 17 year old Victoria is very talented. There were a few breaks by both, but Shrivalli could not get the job done in the end in both sets. She was not playing as poorly as last week, and seemed to be handling the green clay surface quite okay today. These are learning matches for Shrivalli.

She needs to get her rhythm on US soil...this is a slightly better win. She lost to similar ranked player last week.

[Q2] (5) Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty (IND,427) l. Akasha Urhobo (USA,506), 36 06

This was an expected loss, actually. Akasha is a highly talented 17 year old, among the top-3 u18 player from USA now on the WTA tour. With her ability to hit drop shots like magic, it is tough for players like Shrivalli who are pretty slow on court. Actually Shrivalli is *really* slow. The youngster has enough power on her ground strokes and is a quick mover too, so Shrivalli was all at sea right from start, falling to 0-2 immediately. She managed to hold serve with some trouble 3 times to 3-4 and after that Akasha ran away with it for 8 straight games and I think Shrivalli put up a fight only at 0-2 in the second set, managing a BP on Akasha, then hot a forehand too long, threw her racket in frustration, and it was pretty much over.

Shrivalli needs to do something about improving her court speed.
