Disappointing last couple of weeks in Japan and China in last 2 weeks. So, did not post any results here. Everyone lost in first round in Japan last week.

This week Lakshya and Srikanth lost in first round again. Prannoy made it to the singles QF but lost today against Japanese Koday Naraoka. Lakshya compatriates from his junior batch are doing great like Naraoka but Lakshya has been disappointing in last couple of months in particular.

Only silver lining this week is SatChi have gone on to make the SF after early losses in 3 tournaments post Asian games high. They play against a Chinese pair in SF tomorrow.

It looks like our players get up for the big occasions but don’t play hard in the grind of the tour even though the badminton tour has relatively few events and so the tour shouldn’t be as much of a grind.

The likes of Prannoy and Lakshya have 20-22 tournaments this year which is quite high. Th[url=e badminton stars have been complaining of too many too many tournaments in the calender.

SatChi have been a bit conservative and played only 14 tournaments this year and due to that they are going to miss out on world tour finals as per this article-
Satwik-Chirag reach another SF in remarkable 2023, but here’s why they haven’t qualified for World Tour Finals
Despite going up to world No 1 recently (and set to climb a few places again after this week from No 5), why have the Indian pair not qualified for the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals? In a remarkable 2023 – undoubtedly their best year on tour so far – Chirag and Satwik have won the Asian Games gold medal, and titles at the Asian Championships, Indonesia Super 1000, Korea Super 500, and Swiss Super 300.

But the two Asian titles don’t contribute points towards the qualification for the World Tour Finals, where the season’s best eight pairs will compete for hefty prize money. The regular world rankings work backward over a 52-week period where only the 10 best point tallies in the past year will be counted. For the World Tour rankings, a total of 14 tournaments from the Super circuit played during a calendar can be counted towards the points. And for the Indians, the China Masters is actually the 14th event

They play another Chinese pair who is currently ranked world #1 in the final, the pair whom Satwik-Chirag has 2-2 head to head and beat them in the Asian games team final in front of their home crowds. Hope they repeat that tomorrow.

No. They have not qualified. Please see the article which I posted just on this page above. They have played lower number of tournaments than others and also have been hit or miss type of results, go real deep in some tournaments and lose in first round in other. So, not enough consistent points it seems. Also, 2 important Asian title ( Asian Games and Asian championships) do not count for world tour finals qualification.

I am ok as long as they get up and perform at big events.

I think these national events are more prestigious than many of these tour event, so SatChi may be prioritizing their schedule based on that.

And these Asian championships and Asian games ( not national events) count towards world rankings but not for world tour finals. After this week, SatChi will be ranked #2 in world rankings. It is ironic that world's second ranked pair will be not playing in the world tour finals.
