To be able to even benefit from an easier draw if she gets one, Sindhu will have to start playing better which she had done in last couple of weeks. Need in further build on that. Anyway, as of now I have no expectations from her at Paris. She already has won 2 medals for us at the olympics ( something which only one other Indian is able to do so far - Sushil Kumar).

We need some young ones coming thru in womens singles. Talking of that in the lower level Abu Dhabi Masters 100 tournaments, womens singles final will be an all Indian one - between 16 year old Unnati Hooda and 20 year old Imad Farooqui Samiya.

Pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto has reached womens doubles final.

Also, keep an eye on Tanvi Sharma. She will be playing today in finals at u17 asian junior championship at age of 14. Many have been impressed of her playstyle.

I agree with Sameer, Sindhu has done enough. I doubt she doing anything to prove anything to anybody. Just to prove it to herself, she isn't finished yet.

Yes, looks a talented one. She lost in the final in a close third games in that Asian under 17 championships. Bornil Chongmai won the under 15 boys title beating a Chinese player in final.

In Abd Dhabi BWF 100, 16 year old Unnati Hooda won the singles title. Hope she is the next one to succeed Saina, Sindhu although it too early to say anything.

In womens doubles, Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto won the title. They will enter top 30 now and will be able to play higher level events.

PVS and Satwik/Chirag start their French Open campaign with a win. Sindhu beat #7 Tunjung for a second week in a row, and is back inside the top-10 in the latest rankings.

Draw-wise, Sindhu has her nemesis TTY in the last 8 so unlikely she goes any further than that.

Lakshya has 2 withdrawals in his section so should at least get to the last 8. Srikanth has Ginting slated in the second round.

Satwik/Chirag have the veteran Indonesian daddies in R2, they are still decent and have a 3-3 record but SatChi should be beating them now.

Lame first round losses for Lakshya and Srikanth again, they are both playing terribly right now.

Srikanth has been playing like that for quite some time now, looks very difficult for him to make comeback of any sorts.

But what happened to Lakshya ? He was brilliant in team event at Asian games but in last 2 weeks he has lost so tamely against much lower ranked players. Does he have some physical issue ? If so he needs to take break.

Laskshya has now lost 2 matches to lower ranked players after his strong showing at the Asian Games. He had also lost the 2 previous matches before the Asian Games although one of them was to a higher ranked player. Not sure what to make of his inconsistent performance.

What to make of it is that he has fallen outside the top-16 and his chances to make it to the Olympics are fading.

In the road to Paris rankings, Lakshya is still #14. So, he is still on track to qualify for Paris. But, cannot afford too many of these kind of first round losses further.

If the qualification is based on best X tournaments (where X is not too high), then the inconsistency isn't as important for qualifying. He just has to ensure that his best results are good (i.e., he goes really deep in several tournaments). However, the top players generally don't have this many first round losses as he seems to be having most recently.

PVS retired after winning the first game, which is never a good sign. Satwik/Chirag lost in 3 tight sets to the veterans.

This tournament proved to be a disaster.

SatChi lost to Daddies 19-21 in third game. They won this title last year. So, they will fall from world #1 rankings now within 2 weeks from getting there. In a way it is good that it will not put unnecessary pressure on them. I am sort of ok with these losses as long they get up and do well at big tournaments like they did at Asian games and also at Thomas cup last year. Something like what PVs used to do till couple of years back.

I saw the match. She was playing well. There was a niggle in her knee or thigh area. She called the doctor. Played another point which she won. Then discussed it with her coach to retire. Given the time it takes to make comebacks, its best not to aggravate injuries.

Major tournaments remaining in Olympic cycle (kept only S-500 and above) though S-300 can also be competitive due to more players willing to participate for quota points.

World tour Finals Dec 13th
Super-1000 - 2 (Malaysia open Jan2nd, Indonesia open March 11th in 2024)
Super -750 - 3 (China Open Nov 21st, India open 16th Jan, French Open March 10th)
Super -500 - 2 (Japan open Nov 14th, Indonesia Masters 23rd Jan)

Only 10 highest scoring events for the qualification period of May 1, 2023, and April 28, 2024 will be taken for calculating the 'Road to Paris rankings'.
