Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Are para archers allowed to compete in regular Olympics? If so, this would be the iron lady.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
I think the regular Olympics is open. So, they could. But, there may be rules of what you can use to shoot or not in archery. As long as the para archers can follow the rules, then it should be fine. Often, the para scores are worse than the regular scores and so the athletes may not qualify.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Updated the first post on qualifiers. We have 28 olympic qualifers now - 13 in shooting, 9 in Athletics, 4 in boxing, 1 in wrestling and mens hockey team.
Sinhombre, we probably need to update shooting projections after Asian championships. I think I would put both Tomar and at least one of the shooters in womens 10M Air rifle ( either of Mehuli, Tilottama ) in 30% category just behind Samra who is 50% category and downgrade Esha Singh to 10% along with Manu Bhakar. Both mixed teams in rifle and pistol can be in 10% and all other qualified shooters in 5%.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Updated in first post.
Dhiraj Bommadevara is a very good qualification shooter. He was second in qualifying at world championships with a 683, was seventh in Asian games with 675 but had a missed arrow, so would have been 684 or so with that and in top 3, was 4th in Asian championships here with 682 behind 3 Koreans.
So, if he continues with those kind of scores, he will finish in top 5 at Olympics too and get a good draw but his match play has not been that good. Lost in PQF at both world championships and Asian games in shoot offs and in QF at Asian championships. He will need to improve on that great deal to hope for a medal in Olympics.
More chance if we can get the mens team in. There are 2 more chances for us to, 3 teams get in at final world qualification tournament in June 2024 and 2 more thru world ranking route. We are currently ranked third in the world behind Korea and China. China has not qualified yet.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
The men’s team with Atanu back should qualify. Both Atanu and Tarundeep are also reasonably good qualification archers.
Dhiraj will lose in the first tight contest at the Olympics.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
True, as I said whatever little chance we have is in mens team. Because the field is smaller with only 12 team, with a good qualification round, a team can get a first round bye and straight go to QF's. Then, you need to win the QF and than one of the next 2 matches to get a medal. Not easy at all considering how our archers have been doing in crunch situations but just a little hope that all 3 archers would not choke.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Yes, Sinhombre. Agree to most of it.
I am still upbeat on Satwik-Chirag as they have sort of shown that they get pumped up for big events although they do not do as well in tour events regularly. They are among top 3 pairs in the world right now when they play well.
But, overall only 1 medal seems possible in badminton- Prannoy being a long shot and Sindhu even longer shot. Tresa-Gayatri ( or Ashwini-Tanisha) will still qualify but unlikely to be anywhere close to medal barring major reversal of form.
In shooting, I am tempted to put both mens and womens 10M air rifle in 30% category - there are 3 or so contenders in either of them who can make final on a given day. - Aishwaryi, Rudrankhsh, Arjun in men and Mehuli,Ramita, Elavenil, Tilottama in women. All of them will push each other for selection.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
It seems AFI won't recognise results achieved in meets abroad where it has not entered Indian athletes for the purpose of Olympic qualification. It also seems, it won't be satisfied with just entry standards and could want the athletes to get into the rankings also.
There is no clarity yet about the guidelines issued. AFI AGM is on at Amritsar today and tomorrow. They also has a discussion about Paris Olympics qualification and 2024 calendar etc yesterday. Perhaps we can expect something by tomorrow.
