Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
5 entries into round 2 isn't terrible.
Srikanth should have beaten Momota but he is past winning big tournaments so it is a bit whatever at this point. Sindhu's last 2 losses (here and in the US) are demoralizing tbh, she has changed coaches recently so maybe they are trying out new ways.
The only other one which was annoying but not surprising was Dhruv and Arjun retiring. They are a genuine top-20, maybe even top-12 pair if they could stay fit.
2 quarter-finalists would be par here.

Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
Only 1 quarter finalists - Satwik-Chirag. 2 close losses in mens singles- Prannoy lost 18-21 in third game, Priyanshu Rajawat lost 17-21 in third against 4th ranked Naraoka. Priyanshu is showing promise to get to be a top 20 player at least soon.
Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
S-750 Japan open doesn't seem to augur well either with Priyanshu and Lakshya scheduled to meet each other in 1st round itself and who ever makes it will have to tussle with Ginting in 2nd round. Time to move on to Australian open and World championships.

Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
SatChi defeated Japanese pair of Hoki and Kabayashi 21-14 21-17 to make it to the SF at Korea open. They will meet world #2 Chinese pair of Liang and Wang in the SF against whom they 0-2 record losing both their matches this year but both were close 3 game matches. So, hope SatChi can overturn that result tomorrow.

SatChi defeated Liang/ Wang in straight sets 21-15 24-22 and move to Finals. They will play Korean or Indonesian doubles pair in finals

Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
SatChi are looking better and better this year now. They are playing world #1 doubles pair from Indonesia in the final. They beat the world #2 today. Can they beat the no.1 tomorrow ?
Of course, SatChi are are world #3 now and read somewhere that if they win tomorrow they will move to world #2.

Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
They have a head to head record of 2-2 with the number 1 pair. But in recent times (2019,2023) both outcomes were in SatChi favor. In 2017 and 18 Satwik was too young and immature. So i think they will win here. SatChi are the best in business in "Attack", all opponent doubles pairs fear to lift at all in in their games with them as they will be punished with un returnable smashes. But on defense part a lot is left improve. The only reason these guys seem to be dominating is fortunately current best lot of other doubles pairs are also not so good in defense.

And SatChi beat the world #1 pair 17-21 21-13 21-14 to take the title at Korea Open. Their third title of the year and four of you add Asian championships. What a year they have been having. They beat the world #2 and world #1 here and now they themselves will become world #2.

Awesome win for SatChi! They beat both the #1 and 2, so they earned this win. Moreover, they are now very close to being #1 themselves and being gold contenders in the Olympics!

Today turned out to be a very good day for Indian sports with this and the 2 CH level wins for Sumit and Karman, and the top-10 major finish for Shubhankar.

Good win by Srikanth in the 1st round of the Japan Open over Chou Tien Chen who is a tricky opponent. Rohan Kapoor-Siiki Reddy lost a close match.

Re: BWF tournaments July 2023
Treesa-Gayathri won as well as did Prannoy. Prannoy meets Srikanth next. On current form I expect Prannoy to win and move into the QF. Potential opponent is Axelsen.
