I don't know why Arjun Erigaisi is missing from the list. As far as I know he is currently World no. 33.

This is a very premature thread.

Let's wait a few weeks to see who plays in this. Vidit and Arjun will definitely get in and likely Hari and Nihal as well. It seems like Abhimanyu has already withdrawn.

Vidt is in same group as Chinese no 2 Yu Yangi.

Gukesh is in group same as Andrey Esipenko, a strong Russian grandmaster.

Nihal Sarin has very difficult group with Ian Nepomniachtchi (World no 4)

Praggnanandha has most difficult group with Hikaru Nakamura (World no 2)

Arjun has world no 16 MVL of France in his group.

Seeing the group, it is not going to be easy for Pragg and Nihal to qualify for Pre-quarters.

Our best bet should be Gukesh and Arjun.

Gukesh, Pragg, Nihal, SL Narayanan have all made it to the last 64. Vidit, Arjun and Karthik will need to play tiebreaks though the former 2 would be favourites to win theirs. I would take 6 in the last 64, and hopefully 4 in the last 32.

Gukesh, Pragg and Arjun have made it to the last 32 without any tiebreaks. Vidit and Nihal will play their tierbreaks tomorrow and hopefully at least one of them makes it well.

Gukesh will have a very winnable R32 tie, Pragg plays world #2 or 3 Nakamura and Arjun will play giant killing junior Sindarov.

Harika and Humpy are in the last 16, not last 32. The women's section has one round less than the open (not men) section.

Round 4 has (live rankings in brackets)
Gukesh (9) vs Esipenko (54) - Guki should be the clear favourite
Vidit (25) vs Bacrot (73) - Vidit is the clear rating favourite but hasn't been in good form here. Bacrot with a good win against Yangyi to get here.
Nepo (6) vs Nihal (46) - Nepo is the clear favourite and Nihal has to defend well and take the tie to blitz
Sindarov (70) vs Arjun (34) - Arjun is the clear rating favourite in battle of the prodigies but Sindarov has been in great form here and Arjun not
Nakamura (3) vs Pragg (27) - Naka is the clear rating favourite but Pragg is also in great form and this is unfortunately 2 of the inform players meeting so early

I would love to see 3 in the last-16.

As expected Vidit moved to pre quaters
Arjun also joined him now
Considering the ranking, surprisingly Gukesh didn't win, hence goes to tie break for tomorrow along with Nihal & Parag.

Harika drew, so will play for tie break tomorrow.
Humpy won to make it equal and goes for tie breaker

Totally 5 in open and 2 in women section are still in play
