Sin Hombre where do you see the "and withdraws" part? I do not see anything that says what happens if someone withdraws.Sin Hombre wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 12:33 am If that happens, then the Reserve Clause above kicks in which says If someone has qualified to the Candidates 2024 through the World Cup and withdraws from the Candidates, then this spot goes to player who finished 4th.[/b]

Gukesh and Vidit are out of wc!! We can have only one Indian in candidates. It will be either Erigaisi or Pragg!!

So lack of comprehension is confirmed?Sin Hombre wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 12:33 amLose, not loose.
Also this is incorrect. Chessbase India that saffron watched but did not comprehend even had an article about this (before Vidit's tiebreaks)

Yes.
Glad that Pragg gets a rest day, this was a brutal match against Arjun and he will need the rest before the calculating monster Fabiano.

Re: Fide world cup 2023, Azerbaijan
Not Fabio, Fabiano and Caruana is an all time great and currently #2 in live rankings.
If he beats Magnus, this would be the equivalent of when Nalbandian won a Masters beating Djokovic, Nadal and Federer when they were the top-3. Obviously, the Fide WC is closer to a GS in terms of prestige.
With this win, even if Magnus changes his mind, he is guaranteed a Candidates spot and it makes Pragg the 3rd youngest qualifier to the Candidates behind Fischer and Magnus (2 of the 3 GOATs).

Re: Fide world cup 2023, Azerbaijan
Carlsen will win.
But, he is also human. So, maybe Pragg will keep his strategy going. Defence first. And, incremental improvements. But, I doubt Carlsen will make the mistakes Carauna, the third-highest ELO rating owner of all time (I think), made. Again, he was human.
Nonetheless, this must be the best non-Anand achievement in chess for India?
Well, our #3 can beat the world #1?
What an U-20 team we have! Gukesh (17, 8), Pragg (18, 23), Arjun (19, 30), and Sarin (19, 42) - the first number is their age and the second world ranking.
Vidit (28, 28), and Hari (37, 31) seem old now.
Then there are three 20 year olds in the top-100. But, the teenagers are the brightest.
