Smooth sailing for the second seed in the opening round.

[R1] (2) Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,268) 6-2 6-1 Rasheeda McAdoo (USA,717)

A tough match against former top-100 Samantha Crawford or an in-form Russian (#407, won an W60 title on clay last month) awaiting in R2.

Riya Bhatia, meanwhile, has lost the first set in a TB to Whitney Osuigwe’s younger sister, Victoria. There were 8 service breaks in that set alone!

[R1] Rutuja Bhosale (IND,313) vs. (Q) Martina Okalova (SVK,732), 16 03 RET.

Oh boy. I have no idea why she decided to play doubles this week also, if she was not physically well after the retirement last week. She had played doubles as 4th seeds with Sowjanya and had got upset yesterday. Come on Rutuja!

Yeah, sad that just when her singles career seemed to be zooming up ,some niggle has set in for Rutuja. Hope she gets sufficient rest till next week's matches and fully fit by than.

So, only Karman remains this week.

[R2] (2) Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,263) vs. Veronika Miroschnichencko (RUS,407)

As Dinesh said above this is a tough match against a winner of W60 title last month.

And it is not like she is a stranger to injuries. Her whole career has been affected by niggles. So, she should know not to take any risks at all. This was simply foolishness.

I know she has the excuse that she went to Texas A&M. I sympathize. But she needs to use her Indian brains - most of which should still be there, despite the farm school's best attempts to destroy it. Seriously. This was really an aggy thing that she just did the last 8 days, playing 3 doubles matches last week and one this week, so unnecessarily. :damn:

College rivalries are fueled by unadulterated hate. So, this exemplifies that at its best.😀😀

It’s the best worst in this case.

Haha yeah. Texas-TexasA&M rivalry is one of the best out there. The Aggies are an unusual kind though - they like to make fun of themselves and come up with aggie jokes and all. The best place to find aggie joke collection books is actually the campus bookstore at TexasA&M. They don't get too upset at being made fun of (unlike the Longhorns).

Karman - Veronica match is into the 3rd set with each player winning a set 6-3. Hope KKT wins. On serve 1-2 now.

KKT broke the Russian to serve 4-3 at one stage but I just noticed it’s back to 5-all now. Too bad they don’t have live streaming for this tournament. KKT broke her opponent again. Serving for the match at 6-5. Kaman!!!

And she does it! 6-3 3-6 7-5.

P.S Veronica plays for Loyola Marymount University but doesn’t seem to have played for them much apart from her Freshman year. She’s a graduate student now. Clearly seems to be working out for her since she just won a W60 title last month.
