^^I meant that our forum members would understand the meaning easily. It’s taken from their last names as written. I thought it was a good combo.

Ani-VSP are playing second seeds All American team of Lammons and Withrow this week at Dallas ATP 250. Lammons and Withrow were runner up last year in this tournament beating Yuki and Saketh in the semi finals.
Nothing to worry. They will recover their points with one good showing in a 125k challenger. Last week they stretched the higher seeds. Focus should be to win this time. Who knows, they might pull an upset.
Wow. They did upset second seeds.

Et tu, Brute? Never unless they are in the Paes/Bhupathi mold.

If u had no rooting interest, I think Doubles would be lot more fun to watch. The points are short and any long rallies are very exciting

I love playing doubles as a social activity. Great way to make friends. But do not like the over zealous reaction and disproportionate attention for our players just because of our futility in singles. I doubt if any other players get so much attention in any other country or even Indian press. It just sucks how bad we are in singles tennis.

Purely from an aesthetic perspective, doubles isn't that much worse than singles to watch. In fact, some of the long singles matches are quite boring.

However, spectators don't watch doubles in tournaments, because the perspective is that they are second rate tennis players, rather than first rate doubles players with a significantly different skill set. Based on the perception, doubles isn't promoted by tournaments (on TV as well as on show courts etc.) and therefore all the stars are singles players which in turn makes doubles even less popular. In fact, even the lower ranked singles players don't draw a lot of spectator interest which is often focused on the top 10 or 20 top stars who are promoted by the media.

This is in contrast to other sports like badminton, TT etc. where it seems that both singles and doubles get somewhat similar attention.

Just curious. Are Chandrasekhar and Prashanth words that come from Dravidian roots or Sanskrit? Well, Prachanda is better than Chaprashi. :-)

^^^ Sanskrit roots, completely. Anirudh (negation of "nirudh", so unstoppable), Chandra (moon), Sekhara (on the head.. from "shikhara" that means summit; so refers to moon being on the head - thus Chandrasekhara is Shiva who has the moon on his head)... Vijay (victory), Sundar (handsome), prashanth (calm, composed, serene, etc, from the root "shant")... They are all sanskrit words.

A lot of people's names went away from Dravidian roots a long time ago in the south. There are still some names like "Nedunchezhiyan", "Thennarasan", "Periyakaruppan", "Kanimozhi", "Velmurugan" etc from pure Dravidian roots, but tennis players with such names are rarer. They tend to be ministers in TN :)

No, I like that name. Funny. We will call them "Chennai Chaprasis"... You know, they are our blue-collar team, a couple of guys at the bottom of the workers' totem pole, fighting to come to the top!

That is it. "Chennai Chaprasis" :) ... They will hate the name, but we know it is in good fun with affection.

We can call them CCP actually. Less offensive. Chennai-Chandra-Prashanth (but also "Chennai Chaprasis" for us)

^^Sorry; no. It is disrespectful. Disgusting, really. Please don’t call them “that.” If they’re on ITD, why not ask them? Let’s see how they feel.

How about Cha’N’Prash as in the herbal health supplement Chayavanprash? N stands for ‘and’ as well as initial from N Prashant.

But it is Chyavanaprash, not Chaya... Actually, more correctly, "Chyavanaprasham," as the true Ayurveda experts from Kerala (Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala) calls it.

Not a bad name for the team anyway :) ...
