Anirudh Chandrasekar/ N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth Thread

Post by jayakris »

I guess we never started a thread for them, as they were generally playing in places where other Indian teams were there and there were tournament threads available. Before that we were generally using VSP's thread. Okay, starting it.

At the Challenger 75 in Split, Croatia (Clay)

[R1] Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) d. Artem Sitak (NZL)/ Kaichi Uchida (JPN), 62 61
so
[QF] Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) vs Diego Hidalgo (ECU)/ Cristian Rodriguez (COL)

Oh, I thought we already had a thread for them. They certainly qualify for their own thread by your newly created rule for doubles pairing thread of winning a challenger title together. :D

Dominating score line against a very good pairing today. Next they play a pair of top 100 players and second seeds. So, that is a tough match for them.

I was also surprised that we had not started a thread for them! I guess I should qualify that a team with a thread should have played at least about 10 events together as a team (and at least 5 at the challenger level). Just to avoid starting threads for teams that are temporary partnerships, as we have a lot of good doubles players and a temporary pairing could win a title.

^^ i agree overall on that rule. But, maybe we can relax on that 5 challenger level tournaments criteria if it comes to that in case of a pair which has been playing together regularly at ITF tournaments.

Like if Niki-Rithvik have played only 1 challenger together. So, if they go on to win a title in their third or fourth challenger it will be ok to start a thread.

Sounds good. Loose guidelines anyway. :)

Good. They deserve this kind of luck. Keep going AniVi! Nobody else wants to win these days (or this week anyway).

Yes, they got a bit lucky there.

Next,

At the Challenger 75 in Split, Croatia (Clay)

[SF] Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) vs. (WC) Kalin Ivanovski (MKD) /Luka Mikrut (CRO)

Anirudh is at 132 in live rankings and VSP gets into top 150 at 149, both at career high.

... With VSP cracking into top-150, we have TEN Indians in the doubles top-150. When you have nobody even in the top-350 of singles, that is a sad statistic too :(

I think for doubles, I only care for people in the top-50 or maybe more in the top-20.

They get further lucky and get another walkover.

At the Challenger 75 in Split, Croatia (Clay)

[SF] Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) d. (WC) Kalin Ivanovski (MKD) /Luka Mikrut (CRO) walkover

Aniruddh-VSP have spend less than an hour in their first round matches before reaching the final here.

Other SF is being played right now and final slated to be played later today.

Good week, nevertheless! Anirudh reaches a new CH of #128, a spot above Arjun, whereas VSP scales up to #145.

Anirudh seems to have taken a break for the new week, while VSP signs up with Artem Sitak to play at the Oeiras Challenger. BalaJee is the second seed there and Purav/Broom are also in the draw.

Aniruddh and VSP won their second challenger title together at Vicenza Italy today. These are their results this week.

At Vicenza Challenger 75, Italy (Clay)

[R1] (3) Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) d. Vit Kopriva (CZE)/ Jaroslav Pospisil (CZE), 61 62
[QF] (3) Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) d. Roman Andres Burruchaga (ARG) / Francisco Comesana (ARG) 62 62
[SF] (3) Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) d. Daniel Dutra da Silva (BRA) /Matheus Pucinelli De Almeida (BRA) 63 61
[F] (3) Anirudh Chandrasekar (IND)/ Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND) d. Fernando Romboli (BRA) /Marcelo Zormann (BRA) 63 62

Have not seen such dominating wins that too thru the tournament in doubles where we see most of the matches go to super tie breaks. Shows that his pair is really clicking.

With that title, Aniruddh will be at 115 and VSP at 133 both career highs. In April last year Aniruddh was outside top 500. So, this has been big rise for him in a little more than a year and he is 24 quite young for doubles.

Anirudh and VSP has made it to the Winston Salem Doubles draw due to a last minute withdrawal from one of the teams. Amazing that they waited till the mid-week to sign in as alternates.

They play a tough pair of Matt Ebden/JP Smith however. :goodluck:
