Mine is running fine. There is the piddly issue of being in the team and being in the standby and getting a visa to the U.K., etc. that takes time. We have not managed to implement teleportation of humans and free movement of people across borders yet.

Standby players played Gabba test and won the game. There is no rule that travelling reserves/ stand by can't play.

Raju bhai, I think the rule requires an injury to a squad player for a standby player to “replace” him. A standby cannot be selected as the first choice player. That’s what happened in Australia.

Your guy is not even on standby. The ICC has some rules about those in the 15 announced team playing but they may allow replacements when there are genuine, doctor-certified injuries.

That is not the bigger problem. The bigger problem is your guy or any random guy needs to be in London physically. To the extent I know, he is not there. You cannot bowl lethal things to Aussies from India. And, to go to the U.K., you need a visa. Many cannot go last moment because they need a visa. And, a visa takes time.

Then, BCCI has to formally move someone out of the main 15, move a standby up and then move your guy into the standby and then to the main team, none of which it has done or seems willing to do.

Guy has bowled well in domestics and was in India-A team. The selectors may be looking at him to do more at the A-team before they name him in the standbys. The current bowler in line who bowls pace is Mukesh. Try him in the future A-team matches, etc.: sure.

No need to give any vivid description. Selection now depends on skipper, those selectors are just puppets. If Rohit feels
Yarra Prithviraj, should play, then no one in the earth could stop him playing. Many selections in that WTC squad indicates domestic, A tours are now useless things.

Sharma ji, your point may be valid but how can this guy play in the WTC starting in a week without being in the squad or the standbys/reserves? Do you know of a rule that will allow Rohit to include him in the final XI?

Some stats
Gill - 2018 U19 champion
Played 3 Ranji season (2 games in 2017, full season in 2018 and 3 games in 2019) before he was pitchforked into A team and then the Indian team in 2022 January.

Jaiswal 2020 U19 runner up and player for tournament
Two full Ranji seasons 2021 and 2022 and then played the A team. Jaiswal has 9 centuries in 26 innings compared to Eashwaran’s 22 in 150 innings.

Do u have any specific reason that Gill selection over Eashwaran and Panchal is fair? Why do you think Jaiswal selection is egregious? Is it becoz the captain is a Mumbai player and Jaiswal also plays for Mumbai?

The sad truth is that player with IPL success and decent FC record is always going to get more visibility even for test selection. I think that is the sad reality. Also players with u19 success and roaring start to their FC career will also find it easy to open that test door (Prithvi Shaw). I feel bad for Eashwaran and Panchal, but to overcome selection biases which unfortunately do exist they have to be dominating at their level. Eashwaran had absolutely a stellar FC season and it is sad that he did not get selected and his options are dwindling. Hopefully as the older guard retires, he gets the opportunity. But his door may be closing.

Also, Jaiswal had a relatively poor Ranji season, but got selected into ROI squad (based on Dravid’s recommendation as per report). He scored double hundred and another hundred in second innings in that game justifying selectors decision.

If Kunal Pandya can retire with fake injury in IPL game then Rohit can bring anyone in the Playing XI with such policy before the match, no matter what domestic experience he has got. He is already with the team https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/ ... 77832.html

There is the point, IPL has huge impact now for selection in test format. Jaiswal is yet to play for India A in SENA condition, has played only one India A series that too against weakest Bangladesh A. His selection is purely because of domestic and IPL whereas Panchal & Easwaran with good domestic performance has played most of the India A games in SENA & WI and has got performance for Indian team selection. Now if you select Jaiswal in the team for his domestic performance, then Sarfaraz Khan should also be there with WTC squad, but SKY because of being star in T20I & IPL is in the team

I agree that it was egregiously unfair to have picked Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of Abhimanyu Eashwaran for the WTC squad (reserves). Easwaran made centuries in both India A matches before the Bangladesh test series -- and those were explicitly supposed to be selection trials. He was kept in the squad, then dropped without ever being tried, which is grossly unfair (it also happened to Manoj Tiwary of course; there appears to be a sad pattern).

That said, I think there is nothing unjust about Yashaswi Jaiswal's selection. He proved himself in the Ranji season (usually outscoring his team-mate Rahane), then made a double century and century in the Irani Cup match, traditionally a selection trial for the test side. By the same logic, Sarfaraz too should have been picked (certainly ahead of Suryakumar, whose single test almost destroyed his confidence even in white ball cricket). Sarfaraz made the top score in the pre-season Irani Cup match against Saurashtra (he didn't play the post-season Irani game because of injury).

SkAY is not in the team. Nor in the standby. Now whether it can happen or not in the future I do not know.

There is no doubt about your major point. IPL is used stupidly to choose the test team and that is why we have debacles like the SkAY selection. While we can play with 10 people and win in India, there is no chance doing that in England.

To PKB, the stories of Dhoni, Ganguly, Easwaran, Manoj, Saha, Subroto, etc. at different points of their lives is the same. Performance, no selection. While the Mumbai lobby is not as blatant as in the '80s or early '90s, if you are a player from the East Zone, you have to perform doubly better. My dad used to say the same about Probir Sen, although I do not know if that was true or not.

I think you missed Utpal Chatterjee in that list, who had performance to play more for India. Kulkarnis & Kartiks were preferred ahead of him. Dinda was more a longer format bowler and was better then VRV, Pankaj Singh.Laxmi Shukla was brought much ahead then he was international ready. Shiv Shankar Paul was unlucky of them, as he had domestic performance and had good India A tri nation series in Kenya where MSD & Gambhir was known for the first time.

By the way, Jaiswal aspires to be the best all rounder

https://wisden.com/series-stories/ipl-2 ... ounder/amp

His numbers in U19 are pretty decent. Our biggest weakness has been that non of our top5 batsman are bowlers in any of the format . Idf Jaiswal can bowl even few overs he will immediately walk into the WC team at the end of this year. The fact that none of our top batsman have not tried to be part time bowler is disappointing.

The potential ODI WC squad
Gill, Rohit( I do hope common sense prevails, but doubt he gets kicked out before wc), Kohli, Jaiswal, Hardik Pandya, Jadeja, keeper, spinner 2, Siraj, Deepak chahar, shami

Guess Axar Patel can be no.2 spinner (probably first time we play wc with two left arm spinners since Maninder and Ravi Shahstri in 87)

So you dont need Iyer & KL Rahul in odi set up, as both have performance in 50 over games. Will that bowling attack able to defend 300+ under lights in presence of dew ?
