Sumit's Wimbledon qualies entry is all assured now, right, Sameer?

Nope. Cut-off is next Monday and there is no ranking update that day due to French Open. So, this Monday's rankings will be considered. At 254, he has no chance in current scenario.

Wimbledon (and grass) is essentially a no-play zone for Sumit. Of course, if he had got in, he could have gone and lost in QR1 and gained some experience (and money).

I'm hoping that he can get into the qualies for the US open where he may have a chance to advance or at least win a match or two.

I was afraid of that. They really do need to get these dates figured out. Just update the ranks based on whatever events are finished, during the grand slam weeks. What is the big deal? If I remember correctly, Wimbledon qualies could use the rankings after the FO in the past. They have screwed it up now, I think.

Yes, don't know if it it happened for Wimbledon last year. But, this year for both French open and Wimbledon virtually the cut off has gone to 4 weeks instead of usual due to Madrid masters and now French open. This has hurt player who have done well in the subsequent week like Sumit this week. In this case, they could have just set the deadline as 2 weeks instead of 3. One week shorter does not change much.

Maybe what you say about Wimbledon is correct but if not for anything it would have helped Sumit financially. These days prize money at grand slam qualies is quite good. Would have helped fund his travel for few weeks.

Ramkumar and veteran Zimonjic are putting a good fight against the 3rd seeds Brown/Sandkaulen at the Troisdorf CH. They lost the first set 6-4 and won the second set tiebreaker. Match TB to come.

They lost 9-11 in the MTB. :damn:

Untill last year the Grass court Challengers were a thing to look forward too and a seperate thread was always drawn out for these 3 challengers, but now with depressing state of matters there is nothing significant to suggest anything meaningful, so guess we continue to discuss them in this European thread.

And out of sheer habit have to enquire what's going on at the Grass courts next week at Surbiton, so Divij is with Quereshi, and Ram as usual will be looking for a OS partner for a Dbls entry.
In the singles Ram is lurking and hoping to squeeze into the quali slot and at present is down to 17 from 36 last week.
If he manages to get in , it will be a true test as far as his recovery is concerned as the last two weeks playing at the clay tourneys was not anything, but purely to get himself into a proper playing rhythm.

Sumit advanced to the QF at Troisdorf on a walkover! .... Sumit will move up to around #228 with the free points.

Two qualifiers and two lucky losers are among the 7 who are in the QF. One more LL to play his R16.

Good luck for Sumit and he gets 2 days rest. Hope he comes back fully charged up tomorrow.

At Troisdorf Challenger 75, Germany (Clay)

[QF] (LL) Sumit Nagal (IND,254) vs. Oleksii Krutykh (UKR,185)

Krutykh qualfied for Australian open main draw early this year. Sumit will have to be at his best to overcome him.

Hope for Sumit, this can turn out to be like LP's Guangzhou moment when nearly 25 years ago LP bagged his first Challenger title in Guangzhou getting in as a LL.

Sumit finally wins a game after losing 7 straight games. Still down a break 1-2 in the third set.
