Not really. It does not matter if he is giving his 100% or not. If his 90% is better than Mr. Crap's 100%, it is commonsense to take his 90%. If you have a performance based selection system, and we have a good set of competitors, we will automatically optimize production. At the end of the day, he has a record. If another player has a better record, take him. Do not discriminate on the basis of ODIs, injuries, Mumbai-quota, someone-looks-sexy, someone-has-a-cool-nickname, or whatever. Hard, cold production almost always wins.

BTW, I am perfectly fine giving the next in line a fair chance. However, I would not chuck him or anyone out for good. If the replacements don't perform better than these guys, then we should chuck the replacements out and bring these guys back 3 months before the WC or with a few matches left.

My blanket policy is: Do not play anyone who has played 50 T20Is. Use the slots to play a whole bunch of players who are younger and need experience. Then, compare the new crop with the old and choose the best. Maybe give them 3-6 months to play together. They will be playing in the IPL anyway and thus will have practice.

Wheather its odi, T20 or Tests, its only Rohit & Kohli taking the team forward. KL in certain instances. New generation has been a big dump in taking responsibility. We saw young Kohli & Rohit taking responsibilities when Sachin Gambhir were around.Gill, Iyer,SKY & Co. all have been rubbish.

So, far only in two instances, new generation has performed, once Pant Pandya that made India won Odi series and the other Kishan Pandya partnership against Pak in Asia Cup.

Team need to move from Samson, Axar, Avesh, Sundar's batch to Jaiswal's batch, they have been horrible performers. Team need an hard spoken coach to deal with these young players.

Gill has been rubbish in test cricket. He has been great in ODIs and T20Is. What were Kohli and Rohit's ave/SR after as many opportunities as Gill has gotten even adjusted for inflation in runs these days. SkAY has been our best ever T20I batter arguably. Iyer has played very well better than the young Rohit for sure and I do not remember could be at about the same as Kohli or slightly worse.
So, far only in two instances, new generation has performed, once Pant Pandya that made India won Odi series and the other Kishan Pandya partnership against Pak in Asia Cup.
Pant has been fatastic in test cricket. He has been the best batter in tests we have had among those who kept the wickets.

There is no point moving from batch to batch. This kind of rigid thinking dooms us. Look at Cummins bowling cutters with a leg field when bowling in unresponsive wickets. Look at Australia analyzing the soil of pitches, etc. to decide whether to bat or bowl. We need to evaluate individuals. We need to mix and match and choose the right match. Avesh has not been given a chance in tests. Samson did not get a good run in ODIs. Sundar won us an epic series in Australia.Youngsters need time to learn and need to be given a full set of matches.

No team in the world has engaged in only picking people from one generation or none from a generation. We need a smart coach that picks the best combination. Not an idiot who picks failures.

Nice to win today in the first of the T20Is. Rinku Singh again stood out for his composure and hitting ability (he made 28 off 14 balls, but the last ball six won't count because it was declared a no-ball, so the six wasn't needed :-( ).

Suryakumar showed his class in T20Is. But I hope he never again plays a test or ODI. The bowling got clobbered, except for Mukesh -- who bowled an immaculate final over.

Is Kuldeep Yadav not in the consideration for T20 WC squad? Or this team is experimental team.

I truly hope all the losers such as Umran, etc. are not back. We need to figure out the biggest losers and chuck them out. Only keep the performers.

Talking of generations, I did not do the analysis for this series. So, here it goes.

Oldies: SkAY (33), Shivam, Mukesh, Jitesh (30), Axar (29)
Young: NTTV, Yashasvi (21), Bishnoi (23), Sundar, Arshdeep (24)

The rest are middle-aged: Gaikwad, Avesh, PK, Kishan, Rinku.

We need to give the younger lot a longer rope since they are largely inexperienced. Sundar has gotten 40 matches though. Give him 10 more and then rest him. We should rest SkAY and play Jitesh. Rest Axar and play the Assami guy. Etc.

Ishan and Gaikwad need to learn how to hit. Yashasvi and NTTV have been doing fine. Rinku has been great. Among the batters. The bowlers have generally been crappy. Arshdeep has been good but is giving more and more runs. Mukesh has been bad - no one over does not a career make. Prasidh Krishna is rank bad wrt keeping runs down. He takes wickets. Bishnoi has been good and can develop to be great. Sundar's runs/over is great but does not take wickets. Not at the level of Mukesh but needs to strike more. Axar needs to tighten up - a bit more striking and a bit less runs.

Umran haven't played any WC, but there is a biggest looser in form of Axar again destroying the team set up. Playing the game since 2014, useless could have made India loose the game by playing that rash short which was not required, his bowling already gone below per since 2022 T29WC.Ishan Gaikward are best hitters only they need is to play maximum T20I games.Only few loosers from that choker team, one bad day agenda pushers , should be allowed to play T20 WC 2024

Oh, sorry. He failed Class 1. So, we should not be talking about high school at all. He is the proud owner of umpteen failures in the IPL including leading his team to the last place in the IPL. Such a brilliant losing record means we should put him in the national team.

Ishan and Gaikwad have failed in all T20Is they got. They are the slowest of batters we have with SRs of 123 and 127. Numbers don't lie. Your prejudice does.

Taking these losers and calling them winners does not make them so. The numbers are there to see.

Fully agree, if we find players who have had less than 10 "one bad days" in domestics, A-teams, etc. No point taking habitual domestic losers and imagining them to be superheroes. We should have enough domestic players who have not lost continuously, led their teams to last place, etc. Those domestic jokers and chokers should never be rewarded.

Yesterday, compared to the pitch, Ishan played a slow innings. His SR was below par, below the required run rate, which pushed things up and required SkAY and Rinku to bail us out. Of course, if he had gotten out, most possibly we do not win. But, he played out a maiden over, which forced Yashasvi to try to make up the huge RR required and he got out. Ishan puts pressure on others and cannot hit. Has one of the worst SRs among batters who have played 30 matches or close to it for us. He is better suited for ODIs. Samson and Ishan should get chances in ODIs and we should try to get a hitter like Jitesh or whoever to try out in thest T20Is.

So now Ishan Kishan is your new hobby horse to batter. Yes, his T20I strike rate is not as high as it should be.

But yesterday, he played a perfectly paced innings in the circumstances. A strike rate of nearly 150 (9 runs per over) was perfect when his partner was hammering at the other end. You don't seem to understand the rhythms of the sport. Somebody has to stay at the crease. If India lost a third wicket early, there would be pressure on Suryakumar, and his ability to score at will would have been circumscribed.

Fetish for numbers and numbers alone is not wise. You can’t be didactic in judging performance. There are many other considerations. Ishan belongs to the current Indian T20 team without a doubt.
