Weightlifting World Championships 2022

Post by Saffron Lenin »

Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu will spearhead a four-member Indian squad at the Weightlifting World Championships, while Jeremy Lalrinnunga will miss the marquee event, which will be held in Bogota, Colombia from December 5 to 16.

Jeremy, who suffered an injury during his gold-winning performance at the Commonwealth Games in July, is yet to recover from his thigh and hamstring injury. He had also missed the Asian Championships in October.
Achinta Sheuli, 73kg Commonwealth Games champion, Bindyarani Devi, silver medalist, and bronze medalist Gurdeep Singh are among the four-member squad.

The four lifters, along with Sharma, are currently in St. Louis, Missouri, for a strength and conditioning camp.
Dr. Aaron Horschig, a former weightlifter turned physical therapist and strength and conditioning coach, is assisting them.
Apart from the above, the lifter also has to participate in three of the following events -- 2022 World Championships, the 2023 Continental Championships, the 2023 Grand Prix 1, the 2023 Grand Prix II and the 2024 Continental Championships.

Squad: Mirabai Chanu (49kg), Bindyrani Devi (59kg), Achinta Sheuli (73kg) and Gurdeep Singh (+109kg)

Meerabai Chanu won another silver at world championships despite wrist injury-

Mirabai makes light of a wrist issue to claim silver at the Worlds

At 200 kg, Meerabai lifted 2 kgs less than her Tokyo olympics effort, but is still comfortably ahead of third placed weightlifter although still some way away from gold medalist from China who lifted a total of 206 kgs.
