Re: ACC Asia Cup
Yes. Really poor shot by virat. This is second poor shot in this asia cup. People regress with age. But he seems to be regressing faster. I thought it would be slower for him considering his fitness and all. Really great players rediscover themselves. Let's see how he copes.

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Another big tournament another failure. Will beat SA & AUS at home and will consider themselves strong in WC. Bhuvi was already finished in T20 WC 2021, carrying him & Shami is a burden now.

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Some hard decisions need to be taken, the 1st one is that at least 1 of Rahul and Kohli need to be dropped asap, if not both. We cannot carry the baggage of 2 underperforming players, when we also need 6 bowlers in the lineup. This would also allow Pant to play at the top of the order, which is the only place that works for him. Also the team was fine until Rahul and Kohli came back to screw the lineup (Rahul in particular), because it completely disturbed the balance of the team.
Also if Hooda cannot slog at the end and cannot be trusted to bowl, then there is no point in playing him. I would rather replace him with Ashwin, who has become a very reliable low order hitting option (ever since this year's IPL). I would also bring in Axar, who has also shown the capability to slog at the end.
So essentially the lineup looks like this:
Rohit, Pant, Kohli (backup Rahul), SKY, Pandya, Karthik, Ashwin, Axar (to be replaced by Harshal), Bishnoi, Bhuvi (Shami ?), Arshdeep (to be replaced by Bumrah)

Here are the numbers for this year:
The worst have been Kohli, Kishan, Pant, and Karthik. Then, Rahul. We should seriously give Samson a run if you want to go by recent form.Overall figures

Re: ACC Asia Cup
How India started their T20 Journey ? MSD was monumental in dropping those big names over 32 seniors from T20Is back in 2007 that surprised every indian fan, and when there was no IPL but after the result, all negetive issues were forgotten. Time to drop these seniors from T20Is, now we have IPL to watch juniors and make a good T20 Side

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Why is this thread always on top? I pick up the newspaper and it says India won't even make the final. is that so?? really? Even in Asia?? Are we that terrible now in a game that nobody even plays?? Yikes. And we still have gone 8 pages on this thread about some cup in Asia, where only the subcontinent plays this game... and we are not even in the top half of the test playing countries there? I know nothing about the event, but it all feels comical to me.
(Just coming in to take a dig at you kirikket fans, like I do once in a while. All in good humor ... If there is still a chance for India to win this, I say "Go India!!!")

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Jay, that is because we are venting the stupidity of the selectors and the bone-headedness of the team management that keeps selecting players who keep failing through the whole year. It almost seems that the team is made up of as many failed candidates as real matchwinners. At the current form, Kohli, Pant, Karthik, Avesh, Chahal should not be near our national team. Maybe Rahul should not either. We keep picking them and not trying the others who have actually succeeded in the few chances they have been given. That is the travesty. Not only are we failing to qualify for the final even in Asia, we have a captain who says there is nothing wrong with this team. I hope we lose badly to Afghanistan. That will force somebody to junk these failures once and for all.
Okay, not. I will not root against the team. So, I hope we win against Afghanistan. But, the sentiment carries. We are being too stubborn and playing too many failures.
Kohli, Pant, and Ishan should not be near the team. We should give Samson a fair run. Rahul should be put on notice. Avesh should not even be near the nets of this team. And, Chahal should be sent packing with Avesh. The numbers are very clear about these and have been for quite a while. We keep ignoring all that.
It is not a senior/junior issue. Yes, seniors like Kohli and Chahal should be dropped. But, juniors such as Avesh, Pant, Kishan, etc. who have failed again and again should be dropped too.

Re: ACC Asia Cup
We have to also take into account 8 games won by the team batting second. So, UAE tracks still giving similar results like it gave in T20WC inspite of bringing new curator, win the toss & chase is the plan. Excuse can't be the reason of failure, but still in UAE it looks team batting first will loose 10 out of 10. Except Hong Kong game, none of the result went to the team batting first among top 5 teams. This type of results are hard to take as toss is the winner.Australian pitches are differant and toss will not make any diiference, so we should'nt be so much harsh except few who havent been giving performance at the time of requirement. Plenty of work needs to be done with pacers selection and wrist spinner. There is no difference in bowling of Umran, Avesh infact Umran has the pace to surorise batsman. 2 games in flat tracks isnt enoug to rule him out. Hardik Pandya needs to understand the game more. Wicket keeper needs a permanent guy. Pant had enough, he should be dropped should'nt be selected based on test performance in Australia.

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Yes, Umran is no better. 2 games on flat tracks isn't enough. Agreed. Umpteen games in the IPL where he was tonked left and right albeit getting wickets here and there are enough. He cannot bowl in T20Is yet. Pace is over-rated. Neither Umraan nor Avesh should be in the team. We have to make do with Bumrah, Bhuvi, DLC, Hardik, and Arshdeep. Bumrah, Bhuvi, and Arshdeep being the first choice. Hardik is the allrounder. If he is injured or anyone else, we get DLC in and take his batting. Meaning batsmen should have a higher target score if DLC is playing while batting first.Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 2:52 pm We have to also take into account 8 games won by the team batting second. It is surprising and totally a shame that even when the team is hitting over 10 runs/over, Pant comes against a demoralized bowling attack and bats at 125-130 SR still at the end overs. Sorry state of affairs that he is kept in the team.

Re: ACC Asia Cup
After this cup, here is this year's batting stats for those who scored more than 100 runs.
Karthik and Kohli got 9 outs each. And Rahul got 10. So, maybe we need to look into their last year's numbers too. Jaddu got only 5. But, anyway, we need to send Pant and Kishan back to the drawing board. Maybe Kohli and Rahul too.Overall figures

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Kohli made a brilliant 122* off 61 balls against an Afghan attack that has troubled most of the teams in this tournament. The relief at finally getting the monkey off his back was palpable. I hope this marks a real turning point for him. He is talking way too much about his feelings in public. He should just get on with batting and fielding!
Bhuvi's 5 wickets for 4 runs in 4 overs was pure art. Absolutely delightful swing bowling. Such a pity he didn't play the test in England.

Re: ACC Asia Cup
Yes, I do not understand that. He would have been an asset in swinging conditions in England. This idea that his body cannot take it is possibly bonkers. With the right training, he can be occassionally used in tests. Not all tests. That his body may not take. But, a one off test in England, he could perhaps do it. Stupidity.
