$20,000,000 The Players Championship

Final scores:

2 Anirban Lahiri -12 $2,180,000

Excellent performance by Anirban :notworthy:

As per world ranking points, this is his best ever performance and is equal to Jeev Milkha Singh's win at Volvo Masters (2006) & Scottish Open (2012).

As Prem mentioned, this should be the biggest prize money won by an Indian individual player. If I am correct, Vishwanathan Anand had won $1.4 million in 2012.

Top 50 would have given him a Masters entry but Anirban moves to No. 89.
But, I expect an invite from the organisers for his 2nd place finish.
Let’s wait and see…

Another good Tournament for Anirban with a T13 finish.
After a 2 week break since his best ever week (in terms of earnings), Anirban did well to have 3 good rounds…but for an over par second round.
Has another week off as it’s the Masters week..
Anirban moves to 87 in world rankings.

Yes, he's having a banner year on the PGA tour with $2.4 MM in earnings this year which is well over 25% of his career earnings of $8.6 MM on the PGA tour. He's also won some money on European tour, so is doing quite well financially.

:Offtopic:

Do feel like the tennis tour does not do a good job for their players. The NFL and NBA etc. pay over 40% of their revenues to the players.

The top tennis GS pay less than 10% of their revenues to players. If they trebled their payouts, it would help the top 200 players quite a bit.

This exercise is better done with net revenues, after including costs. The entire challenger tour is run at a loss.

:Offtopic: For sure, the expenses do factor in. However, even if the USTA pays $300 K each for 50 challengers that is only $15 MM (and add a similar amount for 100 futures). The US Open revenues of $360 MM should still allow for substantially more than the $40 MM that they pay their players (+ the 30MM for futures and challengers) considering that the major US professional sports pay 40-50% of their revenues to the players.

I think they could easily double the payouts at the US Open (and also perhaps double the prize money at the US challengers and futures). I believe Novak and some of the players have noticed this and have been trying to organize around this issue but haven't had success yet. The larger issue is likely that the players in tennis aren't organized as well as the players in the other US professional sports where they renegotiate their contracts every few years.
