Kerala is really spiking again, thanks to Onam last week. Me and all 4 of us at home at my mother's place add to the case count in Kerala from late last week! One wedding where we do not remember being without masks (except at the feast) or even talking to anybody at length or anything, was enough for all of us to get it. Very mild strain though.

It is all becoming pretty much the norm. But I will continue giving the daily updates in the above simplified format every few days.

On a steady drop again, as the Kerala Onam wave is over. But TN and WB are showing mild rises. Maharashtra on a holding pattern. Nothing much else happening, as about 2/3rd of the cases are in these 6 states. All other states are pretty much below 100 each day.

On Sep 30th, the weekly average fell under 4000 per day for the first time since June 6th, after 114 days. It fell below 3000 just 6 days later. Probably will go below our previous low just around 2000, pretty soon.

In a day or two, I expect us to fall to the lowest weekly average in 2.5+ years, since April 18th, 2020 when our average (in my spreadsheet) went over 1000 for the first time. We had fallen to an average of 1010 on April 10th this year but one more wave started then. We will fall below that too and there is no sign of another wave. Even if there is, I don't think we will know, as the cases are no longer being tested and reported properly.

The +629 we had this Monday is the lowest total since April 8, 2020. It is pretty much over.

I am almost ready to stop keeping my spreadsheet for sports-india, that i started on March 31, 2020, a few days into the first lockdown and has now reached 952 days. Wow. I never thought I would have to go that long before sports-india could officially call the pandemic behind us. I think I will do it this week!

Now that we have fallen below 1000 in daily average for the first time in 936 days, I think I will stop reporting the cases.

I might keep an eye, and may report a weekly total just to warn if anything crazy starts happening. Haven't decided. For the time being, this is the end. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would go on for 988 days to almost the end of 2022 and take up 554 pages on the pandemic, when we started the thread in late February 2020 before the first cases got reported in India (actually the isolated first cases in Kerala had come in, but not the cases that started the spread). Olympics getting postponed was our initial worry. Little did we know what was in store in terms of so much hardship to so many people and such a high toll in the loss of precious lives. But we need to move on finally.
