Re: Manas Dhamne thread
At the M15 in Monastir, TUN (Hard)
[R1] (SE) Manas Dhamne (IND,1013) d. (5) Alberto Barroso Campos (ESP,540), 76(2) 63
Yet another upset. Wow. It seems he won 12 points straight from 3-3 in the second set, with two breaks and a hold. To be able to do that for a 9th win in a row in 10 days is something unbelievable. Go Manas.

What's up with Dhamne?
The man is now a machine!!
Match him up with Sinner. Okay just kidding, I am just happy he's found a new tennis gear!
Why isn't he playing Jr Slams?

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
He has only played pro events and no junior events for a year, so he has no junior ranking. But a top-850 ATP ranking will get him automatic entry to junior grand slam qualifying, and a top-750 rank puts him into junior GS main draws. He is close to 750 and will now be playing the remaining three junior slams.

The link has a picture of him with fellow Piatti alumni Sinner!
BTW, there is a picture of him with Wawrinka as well and they appear to be about the same height -- so Dhamne is likely 6 feet (same as Wawrinka) unless he has grown since when the picture was taken. He does appear to have long arms (and hence a longer wingspan) which effectively makes him taller for sports purposes. For example, legendary basketball player Kevin Durant is "only" 6'10" but has the wingspan of a 7 footer which determines his effective height for basketball purposes.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
He has apparently reached a bit over 6 to 6-1 or so now. That picture with Sinner was from last June or so, iirc.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Speaking of the junior Slams, Ramesh Krishnan won both the French Open and Wimbledon junior singles titles in 1979 (emulating what Ivan Lendl had achieved the previous year). Ramesh narrowly lost in the final of the US Open juniors.
Leander Paes won the Wimbledon and US Open junior titles in different years. The year he won the Wimbledon junior title, he had begun by making the Australian Open junior final -- after beating 1-Jan Kodes jr (son of the 1973 Wimbledon men's singles champion) in R1. I remember reading about in the NY Times, which got his national affiliation wrong (writing "Leander Paes, Indonesia").

At the M15 in Monastir, TUN (Hard)
[R2] (SE) Manas Dhamne (IND,1013) d. Emilien Demanet (BEL,661)
Another credible victory for Manas against higher ranked Belgian 19 y/o.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
19 year old Belgian was also ranked top 20 in juniors last year. so another excellent win by Manas. He was up 4-2 in the first set only to lose the next 4 games and the set. Than, was 3 times up a break in the second but kept getting broken back before he held at 5-5 and than broke to take the second set 7-5.
Than, lost first 7 points in third set to be down 0-1,0-40 and looked like tiredness finally setting in for Manas but somehow Manas mastered up great burst of energy to go on absolute tear to go 28-10 in rest of that set.
Up next against a former top 65 player who is now 37 year old.
[QF] (SE) Manas Dhamne (IND,1013) vs. Kenny De Schepper (FRA,688)

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
That is 10 wins in consecutive weeks (in 12 days). I don't think any Indian man has done that, ever. I think Sameer checked it and found Somdev with 7 or 8 in a row, when Sumit last year matched it or something (right, Sameer?).
Even more incredible is that he has just had SEVEN upset wins in two weeks, out of those 10 matches. No Indian, man or woman, has ever come even close to that, I am sure! Never.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
As discussed in our ITD whatsapp chat, Prakash Amritraj won 3 consecutive futures title in consecutive weeks in India in 2007 ( 15 wins) and Somdev won 2 consecutive titles (10 wins) on his return to pro circuit in 2008.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
^^^ Thanks. That Somedev run in the US in 2008 was an incredible 28 wins in a row, but there were breaks between the 5 events. He had 10 in a row in consecutive weeks. Prakash had two long streaks in India (one of 13 wins in the 2003 4-week satellites, and one of 15 wins in the 2007 3-week futures series).
But most number of wins in consecutive weeks is still 10. Manas has tied that now because of 2 Q matches also last week. One more win, and he will have the sole record for most wins in consecutive weeks.
