Just as you felt, Manas ran out of gas after the long 3.5 hour match yesterday and a close first set today. He was down a break at 0-3 to start but out the break back and went toe-to-toe with Piccione for 3 sets till 5-5 in the first set when he even had a 30-40 BP... But from then on, he was out of it, as Piicione stepped on the gas. Manas won only 6 points out of the next 40 points. 57 06 loss.

That can happen to 16 year olds, especially on clay, when you grind for 4.5 hours within 24 hours. But another fruitful pro outing with 3 wins and a loss, and one more ATP point for the boy.

Picchione won the title last week so Manas ran into an inform player.

Manas's final qualifying match is being streamed live on ITF Tennis. The kid seems have a solid game, has played the net points well but lacks a good serve. Ofcourse he is still very young and should be able to develop it over time but for now he is having a tough time holding serve.

6 breaks of serve so far. Score is 3-3 with Manas to serve. Seems like whoever manages to hold serve will win :p

Manas is up 63 33... And he wins it in a match-tiebreaker, after getting broken in the 7th game of the second set.

He wins! 64 46 10-8
His drop shots amazed me the most! Perhaps more so because I have not seen many Indians do it well enough on the circuit.

Same here. "Not many" is quite gracious. In fact, no other Indian hits drop shots well at all. Manas is the only one I have seen doing it well consistently. Amazing.

His shots look very smooth and effortless. He moves very well too. Need to develop more power, but he is a 16 year old after all.

Good to see Manas beat a 800 ranked player. With his loss to an inform 400+ player last week (who went on to win the title), Manas's game seems to be showing significant improvement.

Will be curious to see how he does in the junior slams this year if he plays them.

Manas lost in first round of main draw.

At M25 in Santa Margherita di Pula, Italy (clay)

[R1] (Q) Manas Dhamne (IND,1344) l. Kai Wehnelt (GER,602) 57 26

So, unfortunately no points for getting a couple of decent wins in the qualifying.
