Quite the right opinion. Kind of what I was feeling too, but I didn't know how to put it. He is indeed "getting somewhere" with the Europeans; perhaps a bit better than how our others (since Sumit) have done on European clay, if they even made it into the clay draws there. He is not setting the place on fire or anything either though. But I am glad to see the slow progress. I was beginning to worry about an early burn-out. Not so worried now. He has time. Let him learn things the hard way.
Looks like he will play the qualies draw at J300 in Santa Croce, Italy which will start tomorrow. Draw is not out yet.
The qualifying draw came out at night there and he is not in it. They have shown players who withdrew up to today (May 12 Friday) at the ITF page but Manas was not listed as a withdrawal... but he is not in th qualifying draw. That could mean he was a late withdrawl by evening draw time, or that he got a wildcard. In fact three of the 4 guys in the semis at Prato are listed for qualies: Dhamne, Caniato and Kjaer and all three are not in the Q draw (De Michelle, the other SF loser is in the main draw). Caniato and Kjaer might have got special exempt entries, but the only way Manas could be in the main draw is through a wildcard. I doubt it.

The tournament website's news update that came out Saturday night says that Manas has got a main draw wildcard! So he and Aryan should be in action there this week. The main draw is not out yet. Will be way tougher than normal J300 events though.

Since both Manas and Aryan are there in the main draw, I think we can discuss in junior circuit abroad for Indian kids thread.

Manas has a junior exempt entry to the main draw at the M15 in Casablanca, Morocco (clay). He plays Diego Fernandez Flores (CHI,813) in the R1 on Wednesday.

I have no idea what the heck these Piatti guys are doing. Manas badly needs competitive matches at the junior level and should be playing J200s and J300s (he has not been winning much at J300 levels or better for a long time) but instead they keep sending him to all these pro events that he is not ready for. A great way to kill the guy's confidence and winner mentality, and keep him away from competitive matches where his skills on court can improve in accuracy. I hope I am totally wrong and that Manas will make me eat crow, though.

15 year old Manas gets his first ATP point as he pulls off an excellent straight sets win against the Chilean.

At the M15 in Casablanca, Morocco (clay)

He will be up against sixth seed next.

Next,

It was same opponent whom Sumit met in April and took 6 games off him too.

Wow, these are low level breakthrough wins for Manas! Even in absolute terms, beating top 700 level player as a 15 year old is quite elite. Hope he can continue being competitive at this level. :goodluck:

27 year old second seed proved too strong for Manas.

At the M15 in Casablanca, Morocco (clay)

[QF] Manas Dhamne (IND,NR) l. (2) Jorge Mertinez Martinez (ESP,579), 46 26

Still , a good week for Manas. He will play in Morocco next week too.

The match was very close in the first set today. Manas started by getting broken but kept breaking back (3 times in the first set, iirc) till 4-4, when he got broken and from then onward, he was not too much in the match. I would guess that he probably needs to improve his serve to be able to hold consistently against ATP top-600 caliber players.

Manas lost 36 46 against 6th seed Kristjan Tamm (EST,633) in Morocco futures first round. 7 double faults by Manas as against 7 aces by the Estonian was the main difference. Otherwise, it was pretty even. Looks like serve is one area where Manas needs major improvement to be effective on pro tour.

Looks like Manas will return to junior circuit now as he is in the qualies entry list for both J300 at Roechampion this weekend and also at Wimbledon the week after.

Yeah, he actually won 53 pts to 50 points when the ball was in play (54 to 64 in total points). Aces and double faults were the reason why the other guy won. If I am not mistaken, the serve takes a little longer to become strong enough even when the rest of the game may be at a high level for a junior. Hopefully that part of his game will improve in the next couple of years by the time he is 17. Need to work hard.
