Re: Sania Mirza Comeback (2020-22). Retired 2023
Nothing wrong with this win. A win is indeed a win!
That they lost a set to a pair of unknowns is a bit of a dampener, but they did win -- which is what counts. Sania is nowhere near her best yet, but it is sufficing in the early rounds of tournaments. Let's hope she can get over the hoop, gain some confidence and momentum from these wins, and climb back closer to her best.
That win takes our pair to the SF, and lifts Sania's doubles ranking to 86.

Good results are such a welcome change. Heck we get excited when our players make it to qf of a challenger. Finals ought to bring old members back from hibernation!!

True. Ishan has been a big time Sania fan -- I think he was in high school when he joined this forum.

Great to see finally a title for us. Sania is getting back her earlier game it seems.

Re: Sania Mirza Comeback (2020-22). Retired 2023
Congratulations to Sania for her 43rd doubles title (and 44th title overall) on the WTA tour:
2-Sania Mirza/Shuai Zhang (IND/CHN) d. 3-Kaitlyn Christian/Erin Routliffe (USA/NZL) 63 62
That is about as comprehensive a win as possible; that they achieved it in the final is all the better. Our pair has clearly gotten better with every match over the past 2 weeks. I hope they will stick together a bit longer. Shuai Zhang of course also won the US Open doubles title a fortnight ago (with Sam Stosur).
Christian was ranked 53 and Routliffe (who made the final last week in Luxembourg too) was ranked 67 until the start of this tournament. Sania was ranked 110! Now Sania moves up to 62, Kaitlyn Christian to 48, and Routliffe to 55 in the live rankings. Zhang Shuai moves up to #10, just shy of her career-high of 9.

Re: Sania Mirza Comeback (2020-22). Retired 2023
Sania is in the entry list of the AO pre-event in Adelaide with Nadiia Kichenok, with whom she won the Hobart title on her comeback event last year. Rumors says Nadiia will be her partner for the most part of the year, although anything can happen in doubles at the WTA level and Sania may not be committed to play a full season. Good luck to this partnership.
