Is Sania playing the Chennai event? I hope she does.

SM/LH were up a break at the start but then got broken 3 times and lost the first easily... It was a close second set and they had 3 BPs in the 9th game. But the 7th seeds managed to hold, and broke them instead to finish it off.

Unlikely now, given the injury break (from a torn tendon) that she has been forced to take. I doubt it will heal in time for the Chennai tournament. I know she would have dearly loved to play a rare WTA tournament in India.

Re: Sania Mirza Comeback (2020-22). Retired 2023
I had a discussion with Sania Mirza's Father (Mr. Imran Mirza) to discuss how her 2022 went and her fearless attitude.
During Discussions : he revealed her never say die attitude is exemplary, Her willingness to go for her shorts makes her special.
She is most likely to play Australian Open 2023 that can be her final Tournament.
Everyone do watch the video till the end.
If you have any questions for Sania- Kindly post in comments of this video, I will most likely ask her in my show as well.

Great conversation. Glad you talked about various topics around development of tennis and tennis players.
Also great that they are giving so much back to the game via SMTA without expecting too much in return.

^^ I guess we will have to wait and see. I hope she will play. Hopefully will announce a retirement have a few events after that to ride into the sunset, rather than just stopping without any news.

That is good news to see that she is continuing. Why not? She was playing quite well this year. Keep going, Sania.

She is starting pre season with world tennis league. Playing mixed doubles with Felix Auger-Aliassime. The match is currently on JioCinema.

I hope this Australian Open isn't Sania's farewell tournament. She is partnering doubles world #11 Anna Danilina (KAZ, actually Russian), who made the AO doubles final last year with her Brazilian partner (with whom she also made the WTA tour finals at the end of the year). That is potentially a very strong pairing, if they can get some tournament practice ahead of the Slam.

^^^ Ah, now she is done too. I am sad. I hoped for an official retirement tour of a few events. I guess not. Thanks, Sania, for the memories from following you for almost 24 years since you were some 13 years old.

One of my earliest memories of Sania playing is her match Heidi El Tabakh (at the FO juniors?) which I followed online.
