R Praggnandhaa - U18 world champion, youngest to reach 2600

Basically a froum to cover chess now that we seem to have sufficient interest in the game.

No, Giri is doing fine. Just move up two places. In chess, the old guys don't move. Anand is sitting still because he is not playing. So, his ELO does not change. :-) I think Maghsoodloo moved down 9 places by hitting some bad form I think.

Anand would be out of the rating list if he didn't play for 12 months in classical, so he is playing a tournament every year. He is semi-retired.

Parham is not a permanent top-15 level player. He hit some good form late last year and climbed from 2725 to close to 2750 and is now regressing back to his longer term mean. He is still young and can jump to a higher level but for now, we should consider him as a 2725 level player.

Nepo is a prick and also crumbled badly against Carlsen.

The Indian media has run with this headline many times but this is the first time Pragg had beaten Carlsen in a classical game.

And today Praggu beat world #2 Fabiano Caruana at Norway Chess, with that has entered top 10 in world rankings.

For completeness, he lost to Hikaru in between those 2 wins against Carlsen and Caruana.

I wonder why it is called classical. Here you cannot agree to a draw. You can draw only if there is insufficient material. That is not absolutely classical to me.

Arjun is #4, Gukesh is #7, Pragg is #10. Is that a record of sorts? Three Indians with a total ranking of 21 in the top 10? (Using live rankings)

You can agree to a draw after move 30. So, a slight deviation from classical but classical enough. If there is a draw then you move to Armaggedon, where you get 1.5 points for winning. The loser gets 1 point. For a win in the classical version, you get 3 points. So, there is also a slight incentive not to agree to a draw ... In the Armaggedon, if it is a draw, then black is considered the winner.

It still shows up with the wrong spelling for most posts including this.
