Excellent runs by Anas and Hina and they are clearly the fastest Asian-born 400m runners currently.

Unfortunately the middle east has their African imports who will win the golds at the AG.

I will add Heena with a * since her qualifying performance wasn’t good enough to qualify but finals was good enough for a medal.

Yes, if you see 2017 top lists, there is one Qatari athlete, who has 4 marks better than Anas's effort today. There is 1 Chinese too who has clocked 45.14 but that was at a local Chinese meet. So, one can discount that. So, Anas will probably get silver with today's effort at Asiad.

Also in womens 400M, there is one girl from Baharain who 5 marks above today's mark of Heena.

But, when you are taking of Asian medal winning potential, are you taking of gold or any medal ? If it is gold, then you are correct.

Excellent stuff from our boxers!! The toughest bouts turned out to be those against AUS/SCO, for which I gave only half a chance and our boxers duly converted. Out of the 5 remaining QF bouts, 2 are against ENG and 1 is against AUS. So realistically expecting only 2 to go through. The best chance to add to this tally is Sarita Devi against an AUS boxer in 60kg class, since Aussies are not the best in the lower weight classes. AUS boxer will have the home advantage though, so only giving a half chance to Sarita Devi. That should be the difference between 8 or 9 medals in boxing.

Amongst the men, there is also a Saudi who ran 44.3 but was banned for doping in 2017. If he returns, he will also beat Anas at the AG.

I am talking of any medal, not just gold.

wow this Om Mitharval is a proper choker. Qualified in #1 spot again but is doing very badly in the finals. As is Jitu Rai.

edit: Om has come back strongly in the next 5 shots. Jitu is at the bottom and very far off.

edit2: And Om collapsed again at the end to go from joint 1st to finish 3rd.

Poor stuff this. Our overall shooting stock has gotten worse since 2012.

At least Mary Kom won.

Wow!!!!!! Jitu Rai's 50m pistol final.......not a single 10 in first 10 shots...Looks like he will be eliminated first. And he was eliminated first...... This was supposed to be his stronger division. Well they removed this event from the olympics too so may be he stopped training in this.

Yes, really disappointing 50M pistol final. Jitu Rai bows out first and them Om Prakash shots 7+ in last 2 shots to only get a bronze. .

In the meantime, Marykom is thru to the final and will meet a boxer from Northen Ireland there.

Shreyasi Singh wins gold in a dramatic turn around in women's double trap. So, that equals the 4 gold from shooting from 2014.

Yes, that is a surprise gold in Womens trap by Shreyasi Singh. For a change, her Australian rival chocked. The Australian Emma only needed 19 out of 30 in the last round ( and she had shot 28 and 27 in her last 2 round) and she shot only 18 to tie with Shreyasi. In the tie shoot, Shreyasi hit both birds and Emma missed.

This somewhat makes up for miss by Jeetu and Omprakash earlier in the day.

Gold #12 for us.
