Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
U-19 to national team is a long way. Sometimes, we overestimate the chances of U-19 players by a lot. See Unmukt Chand. He was a very good List-A player while not that good in FC or T20s. Captain, star, etc. But, if you think chances for Sarfaraz is zero, then, of course, his brother's is perhaps higher even though it is small.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
I'd rather try Rinku Singh first. He seems to play pace bowlers very well.Rajkumar Sharma wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 4:51 am Bawne stats are massive. He is getting harsh treatment, can be a solid n.o 5 in test matches.
While we are at it, can we keep Mukesh Kumar for tests and save us from his awful bowling with the white ball including several over-steppings regularly.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Rinku should develop Odi cricket first then he should come in test squad. Bawne stats are enough to play test cricket, he does'nt need anything more to do it. Highly experienced domestic cricketer can work in Australia

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Bawne can certainly work but Rinku is a better long-term investment. I think his problem in ODIs is that he finds it difficult to balance hitting and singles/defence. In FC cricket, his mind is clear. Defend and hit the bad ball - he can do it. In T20Is, his mind is clear, just hit. He has not figured out ODIs but that does not mean he will be bad in tests. Australia is tough for everyone and anyone can fail. I don't mind Bawne but I would rather take a chance on Rinku thinking that even if he fails this time, when we will be rebuilding, this will pay off for the longer term.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
My other post from A series thread. Rohan has played less than 15 matches. Also started off with a bang but has dropped off significantly last year. So he is wait and watch.Kumar wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:19 pm Rohan Kunnumal (had a poor 2023 Ranji season, but still averages 57+) short sample size. Dhurv Shorey averages 54
Harvik Desai is an interesting candidate as well. He is a wicket keeper that opens for Saurashtra (over Sheldon Jackson). He averages only 35, but his career is on upswing.
Mayank Agarwal is an easy choice. Not really sure why he is getting short shift.
Actually I would have gone with Tanush Kotian who is not as good with the ball 32 when compared to 26 for Narang, but a far superior batsman with average of 43 (compare to 23 for Narang). Kotian is relatively younger and appears to improve with the ball as well.
Please go with the most bouncy track that does not help spinners. I hope the fact that there are just two spinners that pitch will help seamers
Why is there no Surabi Kumar in this team?

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Ankit Bawne will never make the indian team. If u are not playing in IPL, ur chances are pretty much zero. He was not even part of west zone tram in Duleep trophy. He will just pile up runs domestically. I think with lot of this players on fringes, local politics plays a huge role.
I think Atith sheth who opens bowling for Maharashtra should be playing for indian A team. Not sure why he is not getting that opportunity. Again no IPL exposure.
Chintan Gaja could be another bowler who bats decently. He is a much better bowler, averaging 22 with ball and 18 with the bat. Curious why he has never played in IPL.
Arzan Nagaswalla has much better domestic stats 24.3 bowling average compared to Tushar Deshpande, but not selected for A team. He does not also have a single IPL game. Is it becoz Tushar bowls faster than both of them. Tushar was not even part of west zone duleep trophy team. Or is it becoz he is from mumbai and playing for glamorous chennai super kings.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Musheer Khan definitely sounds like an exciting prospect. Middle order batsman who can bowl 10 overs sounds interesting. It is interesting that kumar kushagra is not part of the u19 set up. He was part of the u19 team in 2019 and 2020, but never played afterwards and is just 19 year old. He has list A average of 46 with SR of 89.prasen9 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:45 am U-19 to national team is a long way. Sometimes, we overestimate the chances of U-19 players by a lot. Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Chintan Gaja should be a Shardul types bat who actually can bowl. Get him in to the A-team.
Bawne was black-listed and sort of banned due to his age-cheating. After that the administrators have never pushed him. Easwaran is, on the other hand, pushed by the selectors and administrators but the team management does not like him.
I hope Mayank gets chosen as an opener in India.
Kushagra is one of those List-A specialists but not good in the long form of the game nor the T20 form. He is young though. Let him develop.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
I was talking about kushagra for Indian u19 team that will be playing the u19 wc. Wondering if the age on websites is wrong. He played for India u19 when he was 15 and 16 , but is no longer playing .
Considering that he was selected for 7cr by DC in IPL over 20 Lakshmi for the u19 wicket keeper, it is not that he is undervalued

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
They are finding tough to leave out Bharat. Kushagra is very much down in that list. Pant, KL, Ishan, Samson, Jitesh....list is quite long enough

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
Pant should be our test keeper. We need a backup keeper for tests.
KL, Ishan, Samson are our ODI keepers. With three good keepers for this format, we don't need backups now. Pant is also passable in this format but not as good as the other three.
KL perhaps is our best T20I keeper. Need a backup.
If this guy does well in the IPL, he will perhaps leapfrog to being the T20I keeper. Ishan and Samson have failed badly. As has Pant in T20Is. Jitesh needs a few more chances but he too has failed. So, we have a void that needs filled.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
I would rather win day in and day out instead of winning marquee cups. I would, of course, want both and some combination of both. But, if you say that I have to choose between 1-2 T20I WCs such as West Indies won along with horrible records in test, ODI, T20Is, I would rather be India and not win those two cups but lots of matches both in India and abroad. The record matters. I would possibly take 1 WTC cup over 3-4 finals appearances but at some point, it breaks even and if given a choice between say 1 WTC final appearance and cup win vs five consecutive finals appearances and no wins, I would choose the latter. In essence, 5 silver medals is perhaps about equal to one gold for me. Each person will have their different such numbers based on what you like more. To each her or his own.

Re: National Cricket Team Players (India)
WI has done it in their best times. Aussies did it when they were unbeatable and also when they were mediocre. England broke the shackles when they played aggressive cricket. Its only India who have failed measurably inspite of having talents who are best in the World...excuses are now looking blunt
