BP for Sumit but Clarke’s strong serve saves him. Ad-in. Backhand return into net. 4-2, Sumit to serve.

In the second set and at the start of the third set, he looked tired and down. Suddenly came back to life after he broke back in second game of the third set and then never looked back.

For all those who say we haven't got talent in tennis....the last 2 weeks has stuck 2 fingers up at them. Just goes to go show what could happen given the right structure and promotion.

Sumit is an exciting player, with a terrific forehand (for which he swivels his whole body into the shot, rising off the ground); he often runs around to use it on the backhand side as well. His backhand is perfectly decent, often a weapon too. The serve isn't a weapon, but isn't much worse than Yuki's. And he is extremely lithe and athletic, so his court movements are swift and smooth. He is also very comfortable at the net, with his overheads excellent, and volleying very competent.

He will rise to 225 in the rankings on Monday, implying that he will definitely get to play the AO qualifying rounds next year -- alongside Yuki and RamK. Of course, if he continues this form into the AO wildcard playoff next week, he just might make the AO main draw straight away!

What a wonderful home challenger series - 4 different semifinalists and 2 different winners.

Sumit wins his first challenger only a few months older than Yuki did at Fergana 5 years back, and gets to ~225 ranking mark at a similar age as Ram did.
