Re: $15K India F7,F8,F9 futures, Chennai, Coimbatore-September 2017
Good to see Arjun Kadhe have some success.
He finished his collegiate career as the #7 doubles pair, so I wonder if he has a good future in doubles (as NCAA doubles players often do quite well on the ATP/ITF tours). He also finished #105 in singles in a year in which several players in the collegiate top 20 had challenger level wins (including notably #1 Cameron Norrie who also had ATP main draw wins).

#105 in one year of college tennis dominating most Indians outside the top 8 is an interesting statement about the lack of depth in Indian tennis.

Re: $15K India F7,F8,F9 futures, Chennai, Coimbatore-September 2017
So, in the end Sumit did as was expected from him winning the title with loss of only a couple of sets ( one each against Ranjit and Arjun). He has 27 points falling off this week and 8 next week. He has 8 from Poland futures yet to be added on and now 18 from this week. So, in 1 week's time he will be at around 270+ ranking level.
He has 27 more points falling off on 9th October. So, he will need to win the title next week too to not fall too much before that ( as after next week, it seems he will miss pro tour for couple of weeks at least due to Asian indoor games participation).

Sumit needs to win week 2 as well if he is to keep his AO hopes alive. He still has a lot of points to defend from last year and needs to gain at least 25 points on top of it.
The zero points for 2017 until June makes it quite hard.

Sumit needs to make the transition to Challengers now. Also higher level Futures. But it's useful to have points from these Futures titles in the bag.

Yes, he will need around 80-90 more points in next 3 months to make it to the AO qualies.Sin Hombre wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 2:24 am Sumit needs to win week 2 as well if he is to keep his AO hopes alive. This is an article on him after yesterday's win -
Title in the bag, Sumit Nagal longs for more with an Open mind
It is good that AITA has given him permission to play the futures next week and not to participate in a camp for Asian indoor games.

Re: $15K India F7,F8,F9 futures, Chennai, Coimbatore-September 2017
In the second week of Chennai futures, Sumit is headed for a poor loss against 900+ ranked Taiwanese in first round. He is down 3-6 , 2-5 when play was stopped. The Taiwanese player has to only hold serve to finish it off.
I just checked Sumit's record and this is his first tournament on hard courts this year. Still, that is a shocking scoreline.

Pretty dismal performance by the Indian contingent, especially Sumit.

Agreed.
I hope it is not the start of another 5-6 month period where Sumit struggles and is awol. There were claims made by AITA about disciplinary issues last time this happened.

Re: $15K India F7,F8,F9 futures, Chennai, Coimbatore-September 2017
His 5-6 months absence from last November-April was due to a shoulder injury not the disciplinary reasons which AITA mentioned. Nonetheless, it was very poor loss for Sumit.
I think he needs to mix up and play some tournaments in hard courts so that he stays in touch.
