Srikanth crushes Shi Yuqi 21-10, 21-14 to reach a third successive SS final.

Only the 5th men's singles player to make it to 3 consecutive SS finals. Very impressive.

Had a bad fall right at the end, I hope he is ok.

Since Saina bust onto the scene in 2006 the women have been dominating. Is the tide now turning? While the men had plenty of wins at the Garnd Prix gold level, such sustained performances in Super Series events was always missing barring the odd title Srikanth had won in the past.

Rather the depth in the women's section is now becoming a question mark whereas on the men's side there are 5-6 exciting prospects.

I watched Srikanth's match and he was simply superb today. He made the world #4 and China's biggest future hope look like a novice. I have never seen him play so well before.

Final will be a big test for him though.

At $750K Australian Open 2017, Sydney (Superseries)

[SF] Kidambi Srikanth (IND,11) d. (4) Yuqi Shi (CHN,4) 21-10 21-14

Next,

[F] Kidambi Srikanth (IND,11) vs. Chen Long (CHN,6)

Sri is 0-6 against Chen Long so far in his career. Hope he can turn it around this time.

Srikanth seems to be in the form of his life. If he beats Chen Long, he will have proved he is close to being the best player in the world at the moment.

Srikanth might well be the best attacking player at the moment but he is going to run into the best defensive one in a sport (badminton MS) which is dominated by those.

It will be a major step in his evolution if he can beat CL.

Great run by Srikanth. He may well be the defacto best player in the world right now - a title here would be a good confirmation.

Reaching 3rd consecutive Super series final is not a common feat achieved due to the fatigue factor and due to the short time gap between super series tournaments in BWF calendar.Players get just 2 day off after finishing their Sunday finals to start their campaign for next tournament on Wednesday. Indonesian coach Mulyo Handoyo's arrival on Indian badminton scene seems to be already fetching good ROI.Good to see Gopichand working with other coaches without the usual ego issues that other indian coaches seem to have with foreign coaches in all other sports. Getting exposed to different training methods/routines definitely helps players in a BIG way.
