Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
Three Asian teams in ICC semi-finals, outside Indian subcontinent is rarity.

And the only non-Asian team is the host country!
Hope India takes Bangladesh seriously.

Not so fast! Pakistan is 137/6, chasing SL's 236 at Cardiff. The ever-fragile Pakistan batting has crumbled...Only Sarfraz Ahmed stands between Pakistan and defeat.

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
Everyone thinks that if India will face the team of Bangladesh in the semifinals than it will be the easiest match for India, but Yesterday I have just checked out from that fact and the previous matches between The both of them and believe me the whole team are just ready to shield their all blood to defeat India and they become very ferocious. and they even have beaten India during the previous series in their home ground and beat us black and blue

Pakistan needs 212 runs t qualify for the finals. Who would have thought they will be in this position after their first match against us. England will be very disappointed with their batting performance.

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
England and Australia went away from choosing solid batsmen to choosing a few more bashers. You live with that, you die with that. Now, England did get six of their seven bats correct. Root, Morgan, Bairstow, Hales, Butler all arguably belong in their ODI side. No complaints. All-rounder is Stokes. Excellent. It is the last bat that England did not choose well. When you lose a bunch of wickets, a solid partnership can fix the ship. They are missing someone like Ian Bell or Alistair Cook up in the order. Obviously, you cannot advocate to play both, but, one of them holding one end up to stop the hemorrhage of wickets could have provided more solidity. Instead they chose Moeen Ali in order to have insurance on their bowling side. Someone more solid at #3 would have allowed Root, Morgan, Butler, Stokes to drop one down, come a bit later, and play their shots. But, at the end, I guess it was poor batting instead of grave selection mistakes.
On the other hand, I hope at least one of the Indian openers fire at the top.

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
Root was supposed to have played that role, and Morgan usually settles in before launching his fireworks. Both failed to push on on the day (Morgan, of course, is pretty inconsistent, so it wasn't that much of a surprise, but Root failing to build on his start can often be fatal for this England batting line-up).

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
That's right. But, Root will not succeed every day. So you need a bit more insurance. In essence by playing Moeen you are playing with 6.5 bats. I think you need seven (with two of them being a wicket-keeper and an allrounder). Consider this,
Lineup 1: Bairstow, Hales, Bell, Root, Morgan, Buttler, Stokes
Lineup 2: Cook, Hales, Root, Bairstow, Morgan, Buttler, Stokes
Lineup 3: Baristow, Hales, Root, Morgan, Buttler, Stokes, Moeen
I think lineup 3 is the weakest batting side among the three. In essence, I am saying that you need more than one capable bat who can hold the side together. Baristow and Root are perhaps the candidates. But, you need one more, imho. Anyway, the returns of a proper bat instead of Moeen would have been greater especially on those days when several bats have a bad day.
The payoff wrt the bowling is reasonable but not much required, imho. I think the Aussie way of playing several all-rounders only works if the all-rounders are very capable bats and very capable bowlers at the same time. Moeen is neither, imho.

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
Such a comfortable win for India that not a single post discussing it here.
As for England's failing, their batting lineup is incapable of putting up a good total on a wicket that is not a total road.
On total roads, they are almost impossible to beat.

So, let's get to the point - who thinks India wins & who thinks Pakistan wins? Right now, the forecast for Sunday says 50% chance of rain, in case that impacts your forecast.
I think the team batting second will win the game.

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
Where did you get that info from Prashant?
London is having beautiful summer for past couple of days and forecast for next few days is the same.
Don't think there is any chance of rain affecting the match....
I predict an India win as Pakistan batting is very fragile...

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017
India should be easily able to repeat the victory in the pool game.
Good, smooth chase yesterday -- with Dhawan setting the early pace, and Kohli-Rohit taking India home in a canter. Jadhav was the surprise package again (after the home series against NZ and England) with the ball, ending Bangladesh's hopes at a crucial point in their innings.
