As reported in the miscellaneous thread, last week,

A rare 48-draw event at that level. She beat a local wildcard Feidi Abreau (DOM,ITF-1201) 60 60, and plays 14th seed Mia Horvit (USA,762) in R32...[Update: A couple of days of play got rained out and they played R32 matches only on Friday!... Riya lost to Horvit 64 26 [5-10] and Saumya lost 06 16 to Alexandra Bozovic (AUS,623)]
This week, #983 Riya took a wildcard to the qualies as the second seed and has won two rounds to make the main draw. Beat Alessandra Crump (USA,1994), 63 60, and Barakat Oyinlomo Quadre (NGR,NR), 63 46 [13-11] ... It is again a 6-round main draw with 16 seeds getting a bye. R48 opponent is TBD. [Update: She plays Lia Isabella Espinal (DOM,NR)... A good chance to make the R32]

Riya Bhatia (IND,893) shows up here or there, out of the blue... This week she is at the ITF W50 in Corroios Seixal, POR (Hard), where she just qualified in. She was the 11th seed in the qualies but upset the 5th seed Ekataerina Yashina (RUS,567), 63 76(7)... She had beaten a 14 year old, Polina Isakova (RUS,NR) 62 60 in the Q1. The Q2 match just now was anything but easy and was ridiculously error-filled from both players. Riya served for the match at 63 53 30-0 and proceeded to serve FOUR double faults in a row to lose serve. In the next service game, she lost 4 more in a row (so 8 service points lost in a row, with 5 double faults and 3 errors). Yashina on her part, served for the set and lost serve after many deuces, to send it to a TB. Actually she tried so hard to not win the set, as she gave an underhanded serve at a break point to Riya who had to hit it for a winner. In the tiebreaker, Yashina was up 6-4 with two set points, but lost 5 of the last 6 points on mistakes, as Riya advanced. Riya was hitting some good groundies once in a while, but this was one of the ugliest and error-filled tennis I have seen in a while (the match was on ITF live stream). How Riya was hitting weak short balls at TB 4-5 to give Yashina set points was horrible to see. But in the end, Yashina would make no mistake in making more mistakes than Riya in the final 6 points :). Yikes.

Her R1 opponent is TBD.

[Q1] Riya Bhatia (IND,893) l. (15) Alexandra Bozovic (AUS,589), 36 26

Riya had 17 double faults today. She really needs to take time off, go to a coach and fix her second serve and double fault problem. There is no point in playing if you are going to serve 17 double faults in 8 service games. She should check with Sahaja on what she did to fix her DF problem. I think it took just one week at the Ashley Hobson academy in Florida last year, for her to fix the issue, if I remember correctly.

No great luck in the first round.

[R1] (Q) Riya Bhatia (IND,874) vs (4) Melissa Ercan (AUS,323)

Only 9 teams entered for doubles, so she got a first round bye, despite being unseeded.

[R1] Riya Bhatia (IND)/ Daria Frayman (CYP) BYE
[QF] Riya Bhatia (IND)/ Daria Frayman (CYP) vs (4) Cadence Brace (CAN)/ Haley Giavara (USA)

Again 13 double faults in just 8 service games. She had 13 in the Q2 match too, but was allowed to qualify in by her opponent, who had 22. What is the point in even going around playing these matches, and mostly serving double faults? Come on Riya. Will you do something, and find a coach who can fix it? Once again, could you please call Sahaja and ask what she did about her DF problem last year?

I see EIGHT double faults by the second server on the Riya side in just 4 service games. 3 of them in a row in the key 8th game when they dropped serve to 3-5. I assume that is Riya, based on her recent record of double-faultitis. If so, she really needs to do something about this. I am becoming a broken record, on her record of getting broken at a record pace of DFs...
