Good job by Zeel to make the SF in back to back W15s. She badly needed a few points after a few months of futility. Good win today, as Ekaterina was a top-400 player just last year. Up next is the top seed Caroline Romeo (ITA,550) who is a 29 year old with a career-high of 401 from 7 years ago, so probably not unbeatable. She needed two tiebreaker to beat the unranked junior today. Caroline is in her first SF since a Monastir title last November.

Zeel needs to avoid doublefaultitis though. She had 12 in the first 2 sets today including 3 in a row to drop serve after being up a break early in the 2nd. Broke at 4-4, but again double faulted again at 30-40 bp while serving for the set at 5-4. She needed a third break to take the second set. But after that she had only one DF in the final seven service games.

[SF] (3) Zeel Desai (IND,684) l. (1) Caroline Romeo (FRA,550), 57 67(5)

I think Zeel could have and should have pulled an upset here. An opportunity lost :(

Zeel won her second title of the year and her third title overall in Tunisia today.

These are her results this week-

At Monastir W15, Tunisia

[R1] (4) Zeel Desai (IND,686) d. (WC) Ximena Senties (MEX,1347) 60 61
[R2] (4) Zeel Desai (IND,686) d. (Q) Liel Marlies Rothensteiner (AUT,753) 60 61
[QF] (4) Zeel Desai (IND,686) d. Anja Wildgruber (GER,797) 76(3) 63
[SF] (4) Zeel Desai (IND,686) d. (2) Oana Gavrila (ROU,547) 64 61
[F] (4) Zeel Desai (IND,686) d (1) Hina Inoue (USA,503) 62 64

All wins in straight sets and a couple of very good ones against top 2 seeds in the SF and F.

Zeel seems to be getting into some good form. Only 10 points for winning W15 title though, so this will only get her to around 630-640 in the rankings. But, if she continues to do well Zeel will do well in higher level tournaments too.

The zealousness of Zeal bore fruit. Well done. The last two wins are very pleasing.

Beating two higher ranked players is way better than those points, though a few more points would have done justice to the hard work.

She is 24 and has playing on the circuit since 2016. Since 2018 she has been ranked around 600, reaching a peak of 549 last year. Nothing much to write. I guess she needs more in the arsenal to break into top 500. No clue about her financials.

Zeel is thru to the QF this week as well. She is third seed this week and has had 2 straight sets wins in first 2 round. Will up against 5th seed Anja
Wildgruber (GER,800) in QF. Zeel had beaten her in last week's QF.

She has talent and was a very good junior. However, her professional career has been somewhat stop and start. I wonder if injuries or lack of resources is partly responsible. Good luck to her for getting back-to-back win! Her 2 tournament wins this year is her career best in a year.

Zeel won her QF easily to take her winning streak to 8 in last 2 weeks.

[QF] (3) Zeel Desai (IND,692) d. (5) Anja Wildgruber (GER,800) 64 61

Next,

[SF] (3) Zeel Desai (IND,692) vs. Gloriana Nahum (BEN,1277)

First time saw a Tennis player from a country named Benin. This 17 year old Nahum is ranked 32 in ITF junior rankings. Looks a special talent coming from obscure country in Africa.

Sometimes I wonder why would someone from India would take a chance of playing tennis professionally. What are the odds of a successful career? What kind of ranking would guarantee a decent living for life(considering that they can work as coach etc. after retirement)? Why I am asking this because parents are also required to put in so much of time and resources. Why would they(parents) do it?

Not your fault. There has only been one top-600 player ever in Benin's history, and that is Arnaud Segodo who played in the early 2000s and reached a #354 ranking. He was world #30 as a junior, apparently, as per wikipedia. Only 3 players have even been in ATP top-1000 in their history. I think no woman from there has ever been ranked in the top-1000.

I learned a word "Beninese" today, by the way. Never knew the word. I guessed it and checked. It seems that is the word :)

Zeel is up 75 00 on the Beninese, who is giving Zeel a run for her money. Zeel relaxed after winning the first set, and the talented girl took 8 straight points and broke her. So 75 02 now.

Youngster came back strongly to win the next 2 sets against Zeel to end her 8 match winning streak.
