Poor start today for both leaders. Chikka is 2 behind the leader and Anirban 4 behind the leader -- they are 2nd and T4 after 12 holes.

I watched that string of birdies (at least the first 4) as Anirban closed a 4-stroke gap with Pasit. He was playing exceptionally well, and had closed the gap to 2 strokes (with Pasit also making the occasional birdie). That he ended tied at the end must have entailed some spectacular play. Sad that he lost the playoff.

Anirban would have been in joint lead with 8-under, if he had not bogeyed the last two holes..... :damn:
But still good, hopefully, he will keep up the same intensity through the weekend...

This is usually a low scoring ground, last year's winner was 26-under......

Round 2

T2 Anirban Lahiri -12
T54 Gaganjeet Bhullar -1
T73 SSP Chawrasia +4

Anirban moves to T2 with 12-under, 6-under for the day....
Two shots behind the leader and last year's champ...

But same story as yesterday, he was in line for a course record and sole lead at 14-under with one hole to go, but double bogeyed the last hole.... :damn:

Anirban needs a win in one of these big co-sponsored tournaments in the Asian swing if he wants to get entry to the Majors next year.

Anirban moved past the leader Justin Thomas in the first 5 holes today to lead along with Matsuyama by two strokes... 3-under for the day and 15-under for the week...

Keep it up... :goodluck:

Update: sinks in a birdie on the 10th to take the sole lead at 16-under...., one stroke ahead of Matsuyama and Knox...

Update: Matsuyama drops a stroke on the 11th, as does Justin Thomas on the 10th dropping them lower...
So, the Top-5 are all one stroke apart from each other...

Update: Anirban birdies the 11th to 17-under and take a lead of two strokes, ahead of Knox... :goodluck:

Update: Lost his lead on the 12th with a bunker ridden double bogey, missed an amazing birdie putt on the 13th.... 15-under at sole 2nd... behind Knox :goodluck:

Fantastic comeback for Anirban after that double bogey on the 12th...
And to lead by 4 strokes is fantastic, gives him a big enough cushion to romp home comfortably for his first ever....
Hopefully he'll stay focused.... :goodluck:
He also has the chance to come home with the record of the most number of birdies, if he stays focused tomorrow.... He has 25 birdies so far...

He was under the impression that getting that double bogey out of the way early on kept him focused. He was chastising himself throughout that hole and the 13th for not being able to do better... :D

If you were SSP, I'd say no!

I did watch the final 4-5 holes yesterday and Anirban was on fire with his irons and his flat stick. However, he does not seem to have confidence in hitting his driver which may explain why he struggles in the US where the courses are longer and more open and a good driver is a huge asset. In the 635 yd 18th hole, he hit some kind of a hybrid metal and missed that right as well whereas everyone else was using their driver. However, two great iron shots and a 8-10 ft putt had him ending with a birdie!
