Reached three way playoff, but fell short in the playoff. Finally a good performance in LPGA

$3,000,000 LA Championship

Final scores:

T2 Aditi Ashok -9 $242,747

Aditi and 2 others golfers finished as joint leaders.
However, Aditi lost in the playoffs and finished tied second.

This is her best performance at the LPGA and she moves to 28th position in the LPGA rankings.

Brilliant result for Aditi after 3 consecutive missed cuts. :notworthy:
Should have won the event but for a late bogey on 17.
Was in the lead either alone or jointly, almost throughout the 4th round.
Lost the lead on 17th hole with the bogey but fought back with a birdie in the last to make the playoff.
Lost the 3 way playoff but a great result and confidence booster for rest of the season. :goodluck:

Time to go back to this discussion between with Atithee about Aditi :)

Atithee wrote: Fri Nov 12, 2021 7:13 pm Jay, Aditi hasn’t done anything of note since the Olympics. Do you still feel she’s as good as she was on the first three rounds during Olympics? There’s something fundamentally wrong with her game (driver distance is one known handicap) for her to not be more successful.
I have no idea, Atithee. She has to be much better than her record, is all I know. Driving distance was NOT a concern earlier on in her career, apparently. It was a huge handicap at Olympics, but they kept saying that it was due to the distance she lost after Covid. I didn't believe that a whole lot, but I do see earlier comments from top Golf coaches about her, and funnily enough the short game was what they were saying she had to work on. That her length was pretty good earlier. But then we saw that her putting was more than superlative (incredible!) at the Olympics, and that skill should help her on any course. It is puzzling. I am no golf expert and have not seen enough of her to say more.

The only guess i can make is that she has some mental focus issues or something that hinders her (in addition to the distance concern).

By the way it wasn't just the first three rounds at the Tokyo Olympics. She was great on the 4th day too. Only a putt that missed by one centimeter caused her to lose a bronze, you know! That is 7 of 8 days at two Olympics where she was staying with the best in the business, all through. That kind of thing does not happen by chance or anything.

But she is what she is. I don't have any huge expectations or anything, from her!
I guess you and I needed to have better faith in her, Atithee. This Aditi is not a gatecrasher but an aditi who finally is showing that she is no aditi on the LPGA tour too. She is now part of it and is making a ton of money.

Aditi got some coverage in the final round. Had a very good chance to win the playoffs which was a par 3 (which is relatively unusual as most 18th holes aren't par 3's). However, her birdie putt (from around 12 feet) lipped out after doing a near 180 deg turn on the hole. The other 2 birdied the last hole from closer in and she was out.

The commentators noted that she has worked on her explosiveness in the offseason and has added around 15 yards of the tee, so she should be pretty competitive on the LPGA if her putter stays hot.

Wonderful to see Aditi finally achieve a great result on the LPGA tour, where she has under-performed heavily in the past. I hope she mixes in some European tournaments to keep her ranking up in Europe too after the great start to the year.

Hope she stays up for 2 more days, so we can put to rest the idea that she can't handle the LPGA tour. This event seems to be one that Koreans win year after year though.

She was 2nd at -10 going into the 16th hole but had a bit of trouble at the end, I think. I only watched the highlights. Good that she is keeping her form on the LPGA circuit. A Korean (Minjee Lee) leads at -12... So what is new?

Congratulations to Aditi on 2 consecutive top 5 finishes on the LPGA Tour. :notworthy:
Her playing partner won the event and Aditi made few errors to finish T5.
She moves to 20th on the LPGA Season rankings and should move her to around 55 in world rankings. Both career highs!!
Hope the good form continues.
