Yes you are correct that despite the fine waiver or using one of the 3 waivers , a player cannot enter any other tournament for the week he has withdrawn. only the reason I can think off is that the ITF and ATP are separate entities and their rules cannot be applied in each other jurisdictions and may apply only if withdrawal and a new entry are at tournaments governed by ITF or ATP.

Why is it necessarily a screwup Jay? Maybe he does not want to play next week? Due to an injury or some other reason?

^^^ Not taking his name out from the challenger qualifying list is what seems like a screwup to me. Deciding not to play the ITF event after he made the ITF list seems perfectly fine if he can give an injury medical certificate or use one of the 3 late withdrawal chances.

But I am still puzzled about why his name is not scratched from the challenger. It should have been done once he entered the ITF event after the challenger cuts were known. Maybe I am mistaken about the rules. Sameer, what do you think?

I thought the rules were clear. A player cannot withdraw late from one tournament ( ITF or ATP ) and play in another tournament in that week. I think this rule is put because organizers need to be certain about the entry list at least 3 weeks in advance and players also can plan well. I don't know if this year any exception is provided for this rule. Maybe ATP has not noticed his entry and then withdrawal from ITF that week. Lets wait for final draws to come out for confirmation.

And I think screwup is not withdrawing from challenger main draw alternates ( he was never in qualifying entry lists), he would have thought he would be taken out automatically. But, screwup is if he really thought he had a chance of getting into main draw of this challenger, he should have withdrawn from ITF before withdrawal deadline. After it was only M15, so it was a no brainer which tournament should be a preference.

^^^ Ah, he had not entered the qualifying at Nonthaburi. Then there was no screw-up on that count (the only mistake being even thinking of entering an M15 that was not necessary when he was just 4 spots out from Nonthaburi!). I don't think he has the responsibility to withdraw, once he didn't make the ATP entry. ATP actually needs to call him and confirm that he will be traveling there, once he makes it to the list later. At that point he has to tell them that he had entered an ITF event. But I thought ATP would contact and check only with players they have noticed to not have entered an ITF event the same week. Maybe ATP has just not done their check yet, or didn't notice that he entered and withdrew at ITF when they checked the ITF entry lists. But I think he cannot just go and play the ATP event even if they have not checked. He will be fined later if he did that, because he should know even if ATP had not done their check. I thought that much of mutual understanding was there between ATP and ITF. Again, that is my understanding. If true, then I have to expect that he won't be playing at Nonthaburi.

The interesting thing is that Prajnesh would need to play qualies at Nonthaburi if this is not cleared up right away, because he is still one out from the main draw. So he must be in touch with ATP (and with Mukund). So, my guess is that everything will be handled at the tournament referee's office in Nonthaburi, and we will see Prajnesh in the main draw instead of Mukund by the time the qualifying draw is made (which may be by Saturday night there?)

Or may be I am wrong, and ATP does not hold it against him if he had entered and withdrawn from an ITF event (quite possible). Maybe they take it as ITF's problem and only ITF will penalize him -- but he may be giving them an explanation of some visa issue or something too. So we should wait and watch.

Surprisingly he is going to play in Thailand challenger, so may be there is some change in rule or Mukund gave some valid explanation to ATP/ITF for withdrawing from one and entering in another tournament this week.
Ok, let us discus his results in Asian challengers thread.

Looks like none of these singles specialists want to win anymore.

Sasikumar (382) is trailing 4-6 2-4 against his Italian opponent (457) in the first round of M25 SES. :damn:

Update: Loses 6-4 6-4. Ridiculous!

Mukund lost 46 46 against the Italian opponent. Just 1 break in each set but Mukund could never get a breakpoint on his opponent until the last game when his opponent served for the match and Mukund had breakpoint at 40-30 but his opponent won the next 3 points to seal the match.

The Italian served 12 aces and had no DFs. Mukund had 1 ace and 1 DF. In the rest of the points Mukund had 52 and the Italian had 56. I don't know what that says. Nothing, I guess. The Italian played better, and Mukund is just not playing well - which is the case with all Indians these days.

This was four straight set first match losses this week for our #1 (Sumit), #2 (Mukund), #3 (RamK) and #5 (Digvijay)... and #4 (Prajnesh) is injured and out. Actually #5 only played 5 games and retired too - so maybe he is out, boot.

Combined, our top-5 went 21-39 in 60 games and managed to get just 4 breaks while getting broken 14 times. Mind you, this is all at levels below challenger main draws! Oh Lord, to what pits have we descended?

Out of sheer desperation we can only hope for Yuki & Saketh to return back to Singles play :damn: :damn:

That is false hope. Yuki is pretty much incapable of playing more than 1 singles match at a time. Saketh pretty much bunts the ball or lobs from the back court, so he isn’t going to beat any solid futures level player in singles.

Exactly. Yuki and Saketh can't play singles. Maybe even Bopanna will beat them (said in jest). None of those guys will do anything in singles. We just have to take a few years off. Or maybe a few months. Until someone hits form and more long term, until a junior with the tools comes up. We know all of the current guys are very limited and even though they may have a run here or a run there in some small tournaments, they will be nothingburgers on the main stage. Do I really care if someone is #250 or #500? In the long run, not. Let them be.

I know this, as it was said in total frustration and in mirth to what low level we have plummeted and a drowning person looks to even a straw to save his life and in that context it was said.

I know my Tennis :D and well aware that practically it is not feasible at all.

Mukund was in the entry list of Egypt M25 this week too but is not in draw. So, looks like a last minute pullout.

Hope no injury issue. He is the qualifying entry list of Seoul Challenger next week.
