As I see the dates clash with the champions tennis league which will be played in India at this time. Yuki is not there in champions tennis league. So, he may be planning to participate here ( Divij too can.). But, Sanam/Saketh/RamK/Jeevan may have to miss this.

I don't know why every year this has to be played in China. This must be putting off many of the other Asians in participating as the Chinese tend to run away with qualification spots most of the time.

China has been targeted by ATP Tour and ITF Management as the next big tennis market - they are building out a tennis infrastructure there that makes India look miniscule by comparison.....the numbers game will throw out lots more good players, many more will filter into the top 100 than India can ever produce, because we have not learned any lessons - and nobody cares.

China is trying to create a buzz for the favorite sports around the world. They are now targeting the Olympics very badly.

With Indian singles challenge done in 2 Indian challengers, time to look at our player’s chances of making the Australian open qualifying draw. It does looks like chances of us having 4 players in the qualifying draw this time look bright.
As I said before, the cut for Australian open qualifying is usually lower than the other grand slams. The cut was 286 this year and was 304 in 2013.
So, these are the chances of our players –

Somdev Devvarman – Live ranking of 134. No more points to defend this year. So, will be in the AO qualifying draw and will be seeded. But, has missed the chance of making the main draw directly with strong performance in Indian challenger.

Yuki Bhambri – Live ranking of 179. But, has 98 more points to defend for the rest of the year. Worst possible year end ranking of around 255. Should easily make the cut for qualies. Looks like he will play in 2 Japan challengers in 2 weeks time and a decent performance will keep him in top 250 and maybe better.

Saketh Myneni – Live ranking of 239. 17 more points to defend this year. Worst possible year end ranking of around 265. Should be comfortable but 10 more points will make it certain for him if the cut is unusually high this year. Not certain if he will play anywhere now on.

Ramkumar Ramanathan – Live ranking of 221. 45 more points to defend this year. Worst possible year end ranking of around 280. Should make it in but needs to get some 20-25 points just to make sure that he will make it in even if the cut is unusually high this year. He is in the entry list of Reunion challenger next week and 2 Indian futures after that . So, he should earn that.

Other do not have much of a chance as Sanan, Jeevan and Balaji are little too behind.
But, looks a very good chance that we will have 4 players in the grand slam qualies this time and a reasonable chance that we will have 4 players in top 250 ranking for the first time in many years.

Thanks Sameer for the nice summary. Let us hope that Yuki and Somdev get into good shape by the time the qualifiers start.

Thanks Sameer! We are looking at a nice big Indian contingent. Sania, Leander, Rohan, Divij? Any juniors? Arjun?

Arjun is 20 now(if it's Kadhe you're talking about). Sumit will be in the main draw for sure.

Hopefully, all four of those players will also be contenders in the AO wildcard play-off in Shenzhen. I suppose Somdev will definitely be in the main draw, Yuki will have some chance of being there, and for the other two the next few weeks will determine whether they will have to play qualifiers there or get into the main draw too. Somdev, of course, may choose to skip Shenzhen and play the Amritraj or Bhupathi league. Sanam too will hopefully play the Shenzhen qualifiers. I would also be interested in knowing who Yuki decides to partner in doubles, and also whether RamK or Saketh find good partners. (Ofcourse, Yuki/Divij and Saketh/Sanam are always possibilities).

The main draw for the AO wild card playoff starts in 26th November, the same day on which the Amritraj's Champions Tennis league has it's final. However, other matches in champions tennis league will get over by 24th November. So, it may be quite possible for some of the Indian players to play here. Lets see who actually turns up here though. Some might think that it may be better to go thu 3 rounds of qualies at AO rather 4 rounds at AO playoffs to get into AO main draw.

As for doubles, it looks difficult for anyone other than Leander and Rohan to make it to the mens doubles main draw. Divij is ranked 118 now, Purav is at 131, Sanam and Saketh will be both close to 150 after today's title. They have to get into top 80 or so to get into main draw which looks difficult with only 4 weeks of challengers left now.

In juniors, there is still time to perform over the next 2 months to try and get into main draw. Among boys, Sumit Nagal is a certainity. None of the others appear to have a chance. Among girls, Pranjala is getting close and Ojasvinee is also in top 100 and can get in with a couple of decent performances. There are other 2 - Karman Kaur Thandi and Mihika Yadav who are ranked 160 and 173 respectively and they will require couple of big tournaments titles or something similar to make it in.

Recall that Yuki qualified for the AO doubles (with Michael Venus) through the wildcard play-off last year, and then made R3 in the main draw. Hence he has a lot at stake there, especially in the doubles competition. Who he chooses as his partner will be quite crucial...

Updating those scenarios after RamK's tile today at Raipur futures.

Yuki Bhambri – Live ranking of 232. 18 more points to defend for the rest of the year. Worst possible year end ranking of around 255.

Saketh Myneni – Live ranking of around 255. No more points to defend this year.

Ramkumar Ramanathan – Live ranking of 206. 45 more points to defend this year. Worst possible year end ranking of around 255.

Fascinating battle on for the year end India no.2. If none of them win any more points for the year, Saketh will end up with 190 points and both Yuki and RamK at 189. It is that close.

At least RamK and Yuki seem to be playing at least a couple more tournaments this year. Not sure about Saketh.

Of course, only a few more points will take each of them to top 250 and that will make sure that they will make the AO qualification initial entry list itself and do not have wait around for withdrawals.
