Exactly. The only other case as you will surely agree is if you are returning after an injury and need 3-4 matches in succession to be match fit for the future tournaments. Playing 1-2 matches a week may not get your rhythm back.

I hate people playing a weaker tournament to maintain the points from last year without any other reason. Of course, it is their life and they can do whatever they want. But, this is also my opinion and I am free to hold whichever I want.

Karman has 6 points to defend this week and has earned 18 points so far making a net addition of 12 points while Ankita has 22 points dropping off this week and earned only 1 which is a net deduction if 21 points.

That puts Karman at 163 points and Ankita at 162.

Ankita has entered $60K tournament in Japan next week. So, a win or two there can still take her ahead. But, Karman too can still earn a lot more in next 2 matches in Pune.

So, we will wait and watch but it does look like Ankita's long reign as India #1 for more than 4 years may finally end next week.
Karman lost in the final of Pune ITF.

So, she is now on 175 points against Ankita's 162. Ankita can still retains her India #1 if she reaches QF or better at $60K Japan ITF next week. Tough for her. If that does not happen Karman will be new India #1 on November 20.

Ankita lost in the second round of Japan $60K ITF. So, it is confirmed now that Karman will be new India #1 on next day. She will be with 175 ranking points at a ranking of around 285 and Ankita with 166 ranking points and ranking around 295. We will have 2 girls in top 300 after some time.

That itself is nice. Knowing Ankita, she is not going to give up any time soon, and may go back up again. A little competition between these two can't hurt.

Bad loss for Karman in her first match of 2018.

At $60K ITF Women, Andrezieux-Boutheon , France (Hard-Indoor)

[Q1] (1) Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,287) l. Cristina BUCSA (ESP,493) 61 26 16

Not sure what happened to her after winning the first set easily.

She is left with 2 options
1) Either go for 15K or
2) Forget tennis & focus on studies. This is not sustainable. Her recent Indian success was fluke. I don't consider her within top 500.

This is a hard decision for any player to make. And one who is striving to get better - let her and her coach decide is the way I feel.

Prof, you shouldn’t take Saniapower seriously. He aims to provoke. One loss doesn’t negate the huge progress Karman has made in the past year.

This is indeed a tough match, given that both are unseeded, for a low level tournament.

Yes, a tough match but Karman came thru with a dominating win in straight sets. :D

At $25K ITF Women, Glasgow, Greast Britain (Indoor hard)

[R1] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,282) d. Georgia BRESCIA (ITA,202) 64 61

Next,

[R2] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,282) vs. (8) Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP,161)

Garcia-Perez beat Karman in straight sets in Pune 25K in December which she went on to win and then last week she won the singles title at $60K in France where Karman had lost in qualifying. So, an in-form player for Karman up next.

Looking at the stats it seems to have been down to the ability to win the 2nd serve points. 14/22 compared to only 9/32 for her opponent.

Why only play the 1 week though? I don't see her name for the tournament in Loughborough from the 5/2.
